Trying to keep my little crv alive. Water pump went bad so decided to change oil pump while I everything was taken apart and while taking off the gear I cracked one of the teeth behind the gear itself. My guess is it’s for the crank positioning censor, my question is can i throw it back on there as is or do I have to buy a new gear?

 

You have to buy a new one... unless you can weld that piece back on.

 

Gonna weld that sucker on there. I’ll keep it cool because I won’t be able to harden it again. Thanks!

 

I suggest to buy another one. If this somehow messes with your ignition timing then theengine may be screwed.

 

It doesn't mess with your ignition timing. On these engines it's used for misfire detection. I'd find another one if possible.
