Titanium retainers are generally supposed to be checked for wear more often than steel retainers. The mileage interval for Ti seems to vary upon usage, but if you don't wanna go back in the head for say, idk 50k miles or more, steel retainers may be the better choice. If your gonna be racing alot, want a lighter valve train, and don't mind the extra costs, then the lighter titanium retainers and more frequent maintenance intervals might be the way to go.

FWIW, I've seen stock honda engines with steel retainers go 100k with no signs of wear, but I've also seen a boosted stock ITR with a 9k rev limiter break a stock retainer after 3 months of street racing every weekend.
I have some portflow titanium retainers from about 10 years ago and about 50k miles on them that look perfect, so IDK..
