The drift king does not and has never claimed his technique to be faster over all but through a mix of this in it's proper element and more realistic driving styles you can become better overall

Which is why M. Shumacher who gets paid something like 90 million year has an understanding of both but only uses drifting in situations of car control loss

This is also why for the Autobacs gt500 NSX where the drift king is a driver you will never see any tail out action unless by mistake

Not to totally shoot down ricers but examples of where drifting is appropriate

Rally

Gymkana

Auto X in some courses

Togue in switch back regions

Movie Sets

D-1 is kool to watch and the cars are beautiful but there's really no point in refering to it as racing

D-1 Grand Prix is considered "Pro" drifting. There are cash prizes, sponsorships, not to mention international competition (ie Driver Search). Sure not everyone is going to compete professionally but its not as "pointless" as you'd like us all to believe. I think if you like doing something, besides just sitting on your ***, there is usually some venue for you to compete in to make it "count" for something. Whether it be drifting, bowling, writing music, tasting coffee.

Once again I wonder how drifting has anything to do with being a ricer... I didn't realize the definition of ricer changed from sticker/altezza/super wing/shitty body kit madness to people that have excellent car control. I've never seen a altezzas on a drift car other than, well an Altezza (is300).

If you really want to talk about bandwagons... I think the "rice-hater"/fast&furious disser bandwagon is just as full of idiots as the "ricer" ones. Be a cool guy on H-T by calling people ricers left and right. I've totally lost track of what real ricers are because everyone calls anything a ricer car. Now someone who wants to try drifting is a ricer. **** I mean I find it absolutely hilarious that here on h-t there is the MOST rice bashing I have ever seen compared to domestic forums.

I think people associate Drifting with Rice because it is not the fastest way around a road circuit by any means. It is done entirely too look a certain way (cool or k00l!). I think it can look good and can be fun to watch, but the point is that it is done only for looks. Wings and altezza's on street cars are usually just for looks.

Well I can see the reasoning a bit now... Its because drifting is considered for show, just like ricing out your car is for show. However I would think that since drifting isn't exactly the easiest activity in world for noobs to do like buying a bunch of stickers and a shitty body kit for your car, that it would avoid getting lumped together...

You think that doing a lambo door conversion, Moulding differnt headlights into your car, or installing a huge stereo moulded in Fiberglass is easy?

Just because it's difficult doesn't mean it isn't kinda dumb. (IMO anyways)

Haha I guess you are right. I was just trying to say that it took some skill to drift. I forgot to take into account the super ricers that are at carshows.

I think trying to drift and having an idea of what drifting is kind agets mixed up.. to me i see a ton of people with there rwd cars going into a corner and exiting out of it trying to get sideways, like the cowboys do in tharr big trucks...and then they you see them saying " ahh man i pulled a fat drift" to me that is not drifting...yikes...

its to bad...

drifting is better for driving in the narrow passes like the mountains(ie intial D, togue style)

where as most road racing tracks are design more for grip style driving so there is alot less drifting at the tracks

Yeah I could see how going sideways along shitty 1 lane decreped steep mountain roads would be good

Why the hell do you bother with these guys? They constantly contradict themselves while putting some cheap comment at the end of everything they say in order to give the illusion that they made a valid point.
Drifting takes a lot of skill, which "riceboys" dont have. You can say it's only for the "K00l" factor, but why do you watch so-called "real racing?" Is it total boredom that attracts you to it? Tsuchiya is a "real driver" and a "drifter" so why don't you all start bashing him because he's a riceboy too. This so called bandwagon crap is BS. Only difference is that you have hate on your side, while they have positive things to think about.

-Have a nice day.

just so you see it, I've made my own thread

Hmm.

Another thread that absolutely proves that honda should have given the S2000 a much higher price tag.

Yeah except that the autobacs 500 NSX he drives for a living will never see sideways unless pushed from another car

Drift for Show
Grip for Dough

Drift is for fun, its a good way to get to learn how your vehicle reacts to a loss of control if it ever happened. Grip is for learning how your car manuvers in straight motion, ideal settings, drift is for the loss of all of that. remember rice is a food, ricers are just not as into cars as we are.

Man im getting confused reading all these posts.

Drifting is for show, but its good on mountain course i.e. Initial D style.

So what is it?

I mean from what I hear drifting is good and helps you race.

Am i wrong?

Do you really think that drifting on a narrow mountain is a smart thing to do? That guy just was referring the Anime Initial D...I've seen some Japanese racing videos of some guys doing it, but the roads are closed off so they know no one else is coming in the opposite direction..... and you have to be a very good driver and know the course before you even think about attempting this.

But who am I to say anything, right?

As for racing, the only way i can see it helping you is if you get loose in a tight corner, you can save yourself and your car from going off the course....
