Default Headers? what are the best

I'm looking to put some headers in my 94 ex but I don't know whether to to put 4-2-1 or 4-1 headers in because from what I understand the performance difference between the two is noteable. Which kind do you guys think are better?

get an exaust and a pace setter header. that would be all you need. you prolly dont have the skill to instal a header but thats my guess.

intake, header, and exaust might only yield about 8-14 hp

i would only get the 4-1 header if you have worked on the intake part of the engine...ie throttle body....manifold....the 4-1 is targetted more for high end power....

I have a DC Sports 4-2-1 on my Y8. It helped more on the upper end than anything (4000+).

BTW, you are only buying one header, so please stop using the plural form.

Basic Rules of thumb....

4 into 1 equals better high RPM breathing.

4 into 2 into 1 equals better midrange and drivability.

i say 4-1 all the way. the powerband is really high but thats where you are when you are racing. who cares about midrange? ....just my opinion. i had a dc 4-2-1 and later got a dc 4-1 and i liked the 4-1 much better. you can really tell its opening up.

Skill isn't really a problem and I have all the tools at my disposal, Is there any one company that really stands out in your minds as the best for a header?

search for "titian motorsports header test" or something along those lines, in the NA forum, those are the best of the best.

most SOHC people really like Bismoto headers

For a SOHC VTEC I would recommend DC Sports. Go with the 4-2-1 two-piece Ceramic Coated. It is the "original" DC header, tried and true. Other ones to consider if DC isn't the route you want to go include: GReddy and Apexi. There are more companies out there as well. If you think you may go turbo in the future or are on a tight budget I recommend you find a used one in good shape. You can't go wrong with checking out the classifieds section here. Good Luck.

I never new there was skill involved in bolting on a header.

I like the 4-1, personally. I'm just running the JDM 98-Spec 4-1 ITR header on my '96 ITR motor. It's lighter, feels better, and looks cooler , than the stock 96 ITR header.

A 4-2-1 will give you a little better midrange power but it all depends on where you want to increase your power.
Either way...I think either way you go, a header isn't gonna make your car feel like it's on nitrous or anything.

mugen - not for sohc vtec
j's racing - not for sohc vtec
spoon sports - not for sohc vtec
toda - not for sohc vtec

however i have a fujitsubo one, for a sohc vtec, i think the only one in the states.

if ur going to spend time at the track, get 4-1
if your going to want decent power for everyday driving 4-2-1 is for u

personally i wouldnt get greddy or dc for any car i have. apexi makes one for sohc vtec. i'd jump on that (inlinefour.com)

remember, u get what u pay for, dont make a bad investment.
