Default Hawaii Drift Comp...

Sun. May 25th I was in Oahu, HI. My friends and I we coming back from surfing, and heard their is going to be a Drifting competition, Hawaii versus Japan. We grabbed some cloths and some beer and headed out.

It was held at Honolulu’s raceway, off of Likelike highway. It was unbelievable. As we arrived cars were backed up waiting to get into the track and park to watch the show. As we sat in the car the Japan team did some test laps, these guys were amazing. They were side-by-side drifting every corner and show drifting on the straight a ways.

I checked out many of the local’s rides. I saw some pretty amazing hatches and integras. Their were a few nice supras, but I think Honda was best represented. However only one Honda was drifting, it was an grey EF. The rest of the drift cars were Toyota; old school Supras, and Nissans.

I had a great time, took some pictures, and was almost killed by a Camero drifter… Only domestic ride there… It came like three feet from me. It was cool, but I sh*t my pants since their was only caution tape protecting me.

I will scan the pictures once I get them developed, in the mean time, does anyone else have anything to contribute? I know a few Honda-tech members were their. Such as JDM EG6 – Your ride was dope…

Here are some pictures I’ve found on the internet:

This guy was one of the best drivers IMHO!

Here are the dirft twins – Japan team.

From http://www.driftsession.com there is a lot of pictures. Check it out! http://www.driftsession.com/ga...s.htm

What would be really cool is if the drifted in the ocean. You know, you can drift all the way around a small island, including an aventure into the ocean. No wait, I changed my mind... they should have to drift around the mouth of an active volcano. That way if they screw up and the tire grip momentarily they'll shoot off into a fiery death. Flaming death to drifters.... now THAT'S cool.

Thanks for the input. Still, most (not all) of you IMO are gay.

You think drifting is stupid because it’s dangerous, well take your ***** *** out side and off this site.

I'm really sick of these wiener kids like yourself... You know who I'm talking about. Don't get me wrong, you have the right to post, but to tell me drifting is gay because it's dangerous is sooo stupid, are you going to keep yourself locked in a room the rest of your life, I wouldn't mind dying a drifting accident. These are professional drivers, they took years of their lives to learn how to drive, they are remarkable. Let me guess, you can drive in a straight line? Moron.

This was NOT a car show you stupid *** clown. Read the post and you will understand, the cars I were looking at were local drivers...

DSC - Will you please join this one? I see you started another topic with some great pictures!

All my gains in life came from taking huge risks. I can laugh at you because you’re a person who wastes their entire life stuck in a safety bubble. This is why I think you’re gay!

Anyway, keep the comments coming, you can say what you want, and I will say want. Period.

Who said drifting is gay because it is dangerous?

I think drifting is gay because it is all for show and it sure as **** isn't the fastest way around a track.

Do I live in a safety bubble? Nope. I road race as does Apocalypse. No straight-line racing there. We drive on the same tracks as the drifterZ y0 but we go around them faster and with the goal of getting to the front and ahead of all the rest of the cars. There is no coordinated ballet. There is no pre-planned and practiced routines. There are no tiiiiiiite body kitZ. There are however rollcages, driver's suits and a whole assload of rules and licensing procedures we have to follow.

Drifting takes skill - no doubt. But it takes less skill to drive a car at 70-80% of its overall adhesion with the *** end hanging out than it does to keep a car on track when you are driving it at 100%.

Drifting is to motorsports and racing as the WWF is to real, competitive wrestling. I don't like to watch the WWF either.

You should do some research on the people you are crying about BEFORE you post.

It isn't drifting but at least it is faster and less safe with more than 4 cars on the track at once:

Evil Drew M: Good point. However I do not drift, and I don't plan on it. I misunderstood you, and you misunderstood me.

BTW, I hate body kits, don't put words in my mouth

Why does that make it gay? No one said drifting is the fastest way around the track - the only reason people like it is cause it's fun to slide around in a controled manner. I guess some homo's like it cause it "looks cool" but I like it cause it's fun to do.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">

You can't compare the two, they have two different purposes - road racing is to be first and drifting is for fun and show. Yeah the body kits are gay, but sadly shitfaces that dont know how to drive have made drifting simply some moving car show crap for idiots that are too scared to drive enthusiastically themselves. Drifting is still an art, regardless of the way it is presented by those ****.

Thats a misleading statement with no factual backing whatsoever. Get rid of that crap. Just cause you think it involves more skill to road race than to drift doesnt mean jack ****, there is no way for you to measure skill so that argument is invalid.

Makes sense . BTW, my viewpoint is unbaised - I hate on everyone. I do respect both types of driving though...

It is factual in the fact that it is easier for me to drive the 450HP Camaro (one of the cars I have competed in over the years) with the *** hanging out in a controlled manner around than it is to find that fine line between adhesion and spinning off into some immovable object.

Oh and I am 100% completely entitled to think that drifting is gay because it is for show and no the fastest way around a track. Also - I wasn't trying to compare drifting and road racing. What you thought was a comparison was my rebuttal for him thinking I live in a safety bubble and do nothing more than boulevard pimp.

Instead of you all fighting against my OPINION why don't you tell me why I should like it? Remember - I am about performance, not looks and style. So tell me why it should appeal to me.

Dirt and pavement are 2 different mediums requiring 2 different setups and techniques. This is an old argument that has no validity. Yes - rally drivers will drift around the 1 or 2 paved corners they encounter but the reason is because that is what the car is set up to do - not because it is the ideal method. If non-drifting was better on dirt I guarantee you that rally cars would not be set up to drift, the drivers would not use the technique and you can be damn sure that they wouldn't drift around the 3 paved corners they encounter.
