Drifting.... suggestions?
Ive been hearing alot of people have been going and trying to drift, but no one seems to get it right. Anyone out there know more than "just pull the e-brake and slide?
You can't drift a Front Wheel Drive (FWD) car. When you pull the e-brake on a FWD car, that's just sliding. Drifting requires that you're powering the wheels that are sliding.
Only RWD drive car's can be drifted.

ya, i know how!
DONT DO IT!!!!! YOU DRIVE A FRONT WHEEL DRIVE HONDA!!!!! you're about to get flamemed HARDCORE! if you want to go tokyo drifting dawg call up dk and ask han for his s15 for the night.

H-T has gone waaay downill.
H-T has gone waaay downill.
ive also heard of a method of drifting using some sort of fancy clutch work that doesnt involve pulling the e-brake, have you heard about that before?

yea but it sure as **** dosent work on a civic.
its called clutch kicking or shift locking, both involve the clutch.

Nobody's defensive. Actually quite the opposite. YOU should be getting defensive and start back peddling out of this thread as fast as you can. Just forget that you ever even brought it up.
Hell, offer a mod $10 to completely get rid of it so it'll never show on your "threads created by" listing if somebody searches your name.

holy crap i almost pissed myself..
theres only a few people that can honestly say they have the ability to drift with a honda. No offense, but the people i am talking about are the ones that made a project out of their ride and relocated the motor to the back.. which is quite obviously way beyond your knowledge or capability.. Dont try drifting mommys car, she'll be pissed when she has to pay the body shop for your dumbass crashing into a pole. Do us all a favor and buy a Nissan, or dont post stupid crap beyond this point.

It's not really a fancy method. Some people initiate slides by overtorquing the wheels into a turn to create oversteer. How do you do that? Just downshift to where it's tight and pop the clutch (only works in RWD cars though).
Now that's Falken drift team drifters and ****, not "for fun" drifters.
As everybody else said, you can't drift in a FWD car, RWD or AWD. Yes, some Japanese people have drifted in hatches due to their short wheel base which is a great basis to create a power slide though they cannot compete with REAL drifting due to the fact that once in the powerslide you mostly have to work with power that was kinetic inertia before you entered the turn where as with a RWD you can feather the gas through the turn and continue to make more kinetic energy, that is why even the good Japanese drivers don't drift FWD. So for all intents and purposes - just ignore it.
Second, stop watching fast and the furious, it rots your brain.
Third, people that drift (in real life) don't daily drive the same car they drift b/c the one they drift looks like a bradly assault vehicle after hitting the wall upteen thousand times. (ask a pro drifter how many times they crashed and you won't get an answer, maybe a smile
). So you probably have one car and it's probably FWD due to the fact that they're cheaper to produce...yeah, don't wreck it, regardless of how shitty you think it is - don't try to drift in it.
Fourth, and lastly because I'm tired, if you do "attempt to drift" and you hit another car, I hope they bust a cap in your ***. Implication? Do it on a track or parking lot if you're going to try it. You'll find out real fast how it doesn't work.
If you were working with a 240 or miata the basis changes a bit, but with basically any Honda 'cept the S2000 you're really blowing smoke out your *** when it comes to drifting.
I suppose some dumb dick can(has) try drifting an element (AWD) but that'll prove interesting when the body roll makes the whole car roll
.

i have also heard that putting on a huge swaybar in the rear, like a ctr or itr 22mm, and no swaybar in the front, can cause oversteer on a FWD car. Also you can probably get it to slide by first steering in one direction then quickly whipping it in the opposite. Its your car so you can expletive around with it and expletive it up, but be carefull not to expletive anyone else up.
i was watching speed channel and a guy used an entire b20 setup (in essence making it RWD) in his 4dr integra and was drifting it at the track. he said it was still very difficult because of the weight distribution and being a pioneer he has encountered problems.
cool, but i would never do it

wow. i never thought id hear so much **** talkin on here. were supposed to be helpin each other out. im 21 years old, my first car was and 82 monte carlo w/a 350 swap. for those honda guys that are narrow minded that means i had a v8 in it instead of the stock v6. it was a pos but it did drift well. i bought my honda cause it was cheap and i like the whole honda scean and imports and ****. now ill admit in a fwd its not not technichly drifting. but for those of you who have never pulled up on that little lever except to park you shouldnt even be posting here cause you dont know what ur talkin about. let me tell you, its fun. and it take practice to do w/an e-brake. you have to stay in a low gear to power out of the coner while ur dragin ur back wheels along. and if ur havin problems gettin the back wheels to lock try tightening ur e-brake cable under ur consol. also pull up on it had and fast. you cant really easy it up or it wont loch both the wheels the way they need to be. practice in a wet empty parking lot. so you dont ruin ur tires or hit anything. im not gonna lie thou its hard on ur car. so be willing to fix things and have a premante shake in ur car from flat spots on the tires. and to the rest of you. grow some ***** and give it a try before you try and sound so high and mighty. a little knowlage goes a long way...have fun man
