Default Drifting: for show or real use?

tried doing a search but the archived feature is down right now. So, after watching Initial D I wondered if drifting is faster or just for show. Please let me know.

thought you were Racer-X the moderator for a second...

I'll be nice: it's not fast. it's just cute.

its pretty well known that in general grip is always faster than drift

drift kills tires...and in time dead tires will have worse handling/braking/acceleration

although I do see some turns that could be taken drift style....faster than grip....but in the end...its about saving tires

That's what I figured. It does look cool, but I thought that taking a line normal would be better.
