Default Drifting school - lesson 3

Well, it was Wednesday, so I was on our local track again . It was nice rainy weather, ideal for training powerslides in my ITR .

Here is the vid (4MB DivX)

This time, IMO I was more succesfull in controlling the slides, so I can see some improvements. I think I made only one mistake in powerslide #3, where you can notice that I moved my hands on the steering wheel many times and finally lost any idea of the wheels position . You can see that my wheels were a bit to the right on the straight after my wheels stopped spinning, so the car went to the right. It's probably not a good idea to move your hand on the steering wheel on a track.

BTW, only 4 cars were on the track and all of them are my friends

I haven't been able to watch the videos you have posted up - but why do you seem to spend so much of your time worrying about, practicing, and discussing powerslides? Go to the track on work on driving smoothly, get the line, understand throttle modulation and braking points.

Knowing what to do in case of a mistake is important, but not something you should be so focused on IMO...

Good luck.

First it's fun on a wet track

Second, I ended many times in a spin, when I didn't know how to correct it, so I wanted to learn it. Now I am getting better in the corretions, so I will focus more on the points you mentioned

you are putting way too much value into those powerslides of yours. they don't make you go around the track faster and it seems to me that all of you guys are trying to show off. you keep looking over at your buddy and your other buddies are driving in the same manner attempting to break the rear end loose. i suppose that's the style or whatever for your guys' taste, but imo it isn't worth the risk. try going around the course learning the best lines and i know you need to work on rev matching.

drifting? come on, if you wanna drift get a 240
car control is one thing, but all your doing is pretending your car can drift
imo a waste of time

Drifting in a FWD?

I did have an 'oversteer situation' at the last track day and although it was fun it was very slow.

I'm trying to keep an open mind towards drifting. I watch that show Formula D on the game network. Drifting looks ghey when the cars are going sideways at 10 mph. It only looks good when they are going 70+.

Well, there was adiscussion about this recently. I know this is not drifting nor power slides, but how else should I call it. These are just some slides for fun

BTW I was doing about 50-60mph, not 10mph in those "power slides".

Why does your stock integra get loose so easily? Does the ITR in different markets get the JDM rear sway too?

Those aren't power slides. You need RWD to do a power slide. (or maybe AWD with the correct center diff bias)

Try using the 'flick' to get the car sideways -- works even in FWD cars.

Uhh... before Tsuchiya called it the 'feint' rallyers were calling if the 'flick' (or 'Swedish Flick') for years.

Rally = o.g. drifters.

It doesn't. If you go just too fast into a turn, all wheels slide and the caR is just neutral. You have to do some accelerator and/or steering wheel movements to make the slide oversteering.

My R has 90,000 miles and everything is still stock. Maybe with new shocks it could be even better.

It's not drifting or power sliding or flicking.

It's called ***-dragging
