Drift Fest Returns
Yes that's right everyone, back by popular demand. Drift Fest is returning to Evergreen Speedway, in Monroe, Washington. September 24th, 2005 we have decided to make things Bigger and Better. We will have more cars entered in the Car Show, professional drivers coming to demonstrate drifting at the level most of our local guys are trying to reach. We will have DJ OG ONE coming in to DJ for most of the night along with two musical groups to be announced later. Rain or Shine Umbrella girl contest. If all that wasn't enough we will have tons of stuff to raffle and give away, from shirts and hats to car care and car parts. Everyone come out and have a good time and leave knowing you got the best drift experience the NW has to offer.

Will Tad Morris be there to sign autographs? Will there be any "one more times" for us to chant to? Will there be vendings slinging random japanese sayings on stickerprint for us to don atop our windshield?
I'm guessing you are talking about the car on flyer. The answer is No its a Sc300 when she shows it she has a R/c car next to it and a Mini Bike painted the same color.
Oh, I can't wait to through horse poop on one of the drivers...
Monroe Sucks, smells like **** all the time and you can see a jail break every now and then if you watch for it...HAHAHa...

We have had FWD guys grip at our last event but we dont have any instructors that are familiar with FWD cars and grip.

Sounds real safe, always great to trust safety to instructors who don't know how to make a car handle, just how to make it not handle.

Why would it???
Just because I can take my street car to a HPDE and go 110mph through a corner at the limit of traction doesn't mean I'm about to go do it on public roads.

Well First. If we do have FWD vehicles that want to Grip/drift. I would find an instructor for them. If they just show up on day of the event and drift/grip I would have nobody available. Also there will be a few pro's at the event that may have the ability to instruct FWD vehicles. But I do not have an on staff thats why I state I dont have instructors for FWD vehicles.
As for teaching them to do this in street cars, and not being able to sleep at night is about the most rediculious statement I have heard. Did your parents or somebody not instruct you how to drive? How to operate your vehicle safely? If some of these people choose to drive in this fashion on the street (which I dont condone) they will have the knowledge to control their vehicle better. I provide many NW drifters the ability in which to get practice at a safe legal facilty. the same as Pacific Raceways, Woodburn or Portland International provides for Drag racers do you think they have a problem sleeping at night because kids street race at night?

ok, good point drift man. it occurs to me that i got into autox because i was sick of street racing. however, your Statement about building better drifters still sounds like a somewhat poorly thought out rationalization to me....and practice for what?
damn me for the perpetuation of this thread.

Many of these drifters are planning to try and make it to the professional level. Like any other sport it takes lots of practice.
building better drifters means just that. If the area gives places and oppertunity for people to practice and persue their dream the more likely more and better drifters come from that area.
For example many basketball players come from areas that have basketball courts readily available to the people who want to use them. Also the better each player becomes allows for others to try and be better.
I think that can be said about any sport. Tennis, Hockey, Football, Nascar, Bowling.
Where I grew up there wasnt really any hockey rinks, or Tennis courts but you could play basketball 24/7. Where my Dad grew up (minnesota) they have lots of hockey rinks, even some city parks had a skate rink for "x" amount of months out of the year.
Autocross is similiar, not many tracks offer aurocross, many auto cross lessions are taught in parking lots. In fact alot of the same driving skill involved in autocross are needed in Drifting. Entering, exiting, apex, oversteer, understeer. the main difference is purposely sliding the a$$ end out to get around the corners. And yes some drifting is timed Usually called Gymkana(sp)

our difference of opinion lies in the fact that you think this is a sport and i don't.
of course, i'm sure i could **** off a bunch of figure skaters if i told them their hard work was worthless because they used an abstract scoring system to see who won. if it makes you happy, pardon me for interrupting.

Ok understood. I agree with the scoring system. That is why I believe drifting like figure skating as you mentioned is more based on opinion. Not by score or time.
Thats why personally I think a gymkana (timed event) is more for competition. Thats why my last event had no competition. This event will and will be judged on OPINION. The reason I am doing it is because the drifters wanted it. My event change from event to event based on the feedback I get from the participant. I believe it is a way to grow with the people.
As far as drifting being a sport. I cant do it as well as many so I can see the skill. So I dont doubt it as a sport, growing sport.
