Nascar = beer and rednecks
Drifting = ricers and retards

Nascar is better IMO besides when there is a race on there is always beer specials.

I think Drew said it best.

"Drifting is to REAL racing what WWE is to REAL wrestling."

I used to think that way too, but take your car up to 190mph and navigate it in tight traffic around a curve and let us know how easy it is.

Talent? Hell yes it takes talent or you'd be doing it RIGHT NOW!

I was attempting to be satirical. I was backing up NASCAR in the sense that it takes as much "talent" as going in a straight line. Which if most people tried running a 9 second car would be lucky to even hit a 12.

Re: (CarpAngler)
drifting and initial d are the work of big tire companies and insurance companies...kids watch initial d and then go do burnouts and try to get sideways, eventually crashing into a guardrail/curb/car...so the tire comapanies and insurance companies get richer...

i just saw the video of the kids in the miata crashing into a guardrail while "doriftoing" down some canyon road..

Re: (nickG)
rally driving takes some crazy skill. So fast and many turns that they need a co driver to tell them when to turn and ****. Intense!

Fun to watch, maybe. Skill, no. When I get the *** of my race car going sideways, it's because I fucked up, and now I'm throwing away speed and likely getting my *** kicked by my competitors. I consider it to be a stupid mistake that happens to a lot of road course racers from time to time, but the more it happens, the less skill you have. The drifters would have you believe that it takes "skill" to blow a corner and get sideways , especially in a FWD car without using the e-brake (some even think that's impossible), but I'm a little disappointed in myself whenever I do that. I don't know why I would want to do that intentionally and make myself look like more of a clown...

edit: None of this applies to rally or other dirt events... Dirt is a whole different story. Pavement is where drifting is slow and lame.

As boring as it is. Go look up some of the resumes of Nascar drivers.

Not all NASCAR events are ovals. I find NASCAR oval races boring to watch too, but they do have a few road course events... you can really see who has the true mark of a good driver (the ability to adapt) and who doesn't. Also, I find that it's actually fun to drive an oval... it's not as challenging or rewarding to good drivers as a road course, but it does have a few of it's own challenges. Most of the fun and challenge is the competition... it's a lot easier to pass or be passed, so you can't rely so much on taking a defensive/blocking line like you can on a road course.

What's the point of figure skating, it's judge subjectively too isn't it? Yet somehow it's in the Olympics.

Re: (Nick M)
wow your an idiot

i cant believe theres so much hate here. you guys have obviously never burnt a little rubber. its pretty god damn fun when you hit a turn fast, smoked the tires and made every little peckerwood on the street stop what they are doing and stare.

have you guys ever even been to a drift event? **** is fun as hell to watch, lots of energy. my advice is to not talk **** about something you have only seen in car magazines and in dumb videos.

Re: (friscorep)
what is the point of anything?

it can be fun to watch, and can be scary as expletive to be a part of. oh well, so is alot of stuff. its no more of a "waste of time, bling, and tires" than any other version of motorsports. they use cheaper tires, and since its about style, they want their cars to look good. its not a waste of time, they make plenty of money.
