Default can someone explain the point of drifting?

i dont get it. so far i have the impression that its totally subjective. its like stunt driving. who ever looks the coolest wins?

and if thats the case why would you even need a powerful car? though i think i did hear going faster helps you do it.

i dont know, i think they should take those cars and actually race them.

but it's sooooo much fun!

and it's not exactly the easiest thing to do and do it like you see in the vids -- it takes a level of skill.

that said, i don't understand the level of where it is -- i'll agree that it's at a level i consider a bit much.

it's like cool to do every once in a while, and that's it.

x2

It's fun when you've ordered a new set of tires and they're in the mail.

im sure it prob is fun. but to make it competitive? it just seems silly to me. for the most part americans know nothing of racing besides drag and oval. so were going to skip a touring style for drifting. all this import crap is based off of touring cars but no one does it.

Honestly, to me it's like ballet or some other subjectively scored thing. It's to have fun, and not considered racing IMHO.

Racing is about turning out quick laps, not looking pretty.

I have a couple of thoughts;

Its a competition of those w/deep pockets to keep paying for roasted tires.

People want to relive every episode of the Dukes of Hazzard where those ol' Duke boys are runnin' from ol' Roscoe and burning tires in town and throwing rooster tails on the dirt, back roads. The next big thing in drifting is when the put the out of place pile of dirt from construction of fallen tree to act as a ramp.

And if breaking traction and getting sideways is the heat why don't they throw on little narrow tires and throw down a nice fine layer of sand or salt to lessen the traction?

To you maybe. Although Nascar blows, it is still competitive racing based on elapsed time which is a result of driver skill.

It is not based on someone elses opinion.

As much as I hate to say it, I think car setup plays as much of a role as driver in Nascar. Just busting your ***** man.

Haha, seriously. How the hell can you "race" if you aren't keeping time? Isn't that what a race is?

I'm not a big drifting fan but i think a drifter needs more car control.

Eh....going ***** to the wall with a setup that allows you to slide around for a few minutes has nothing on driving at 150+ inches from other cars for hours on end.

I'd be willing to bet they didnt air Dukes of Hazzard in Japan.

All I have to say is , You set a car sideways on a bend in the road or in a parking lot and then tell me if you had fun for that split second. Then go do it some more.

It takes alot of skill and brass ***** to throw a car sideways intentionally and control it.

It's for adrenaline junkies. It's fun. I wish I never sold my 240sx.
