Mickey Thompson has a 205/50/14 inch tire which has a overall diameter of 22 inches. Also I believe BFG has a 205/50/14 inch drag radial that is a 22 inch tire. I used to run cheap 14 inch honda steelies on the front with the Mickey Thompson 14 in drag radials. I had a 2000 GSR and the steelie wheels cleared the brakes fine. I believe most 14 inch wheels still clear GSR brakes.

Yeah I'm talking about the car in my sig. On slicks with a open differential GSR trans and 4.9 final I was hitting 1.69 and low 1.7x 60'. On the drag radials I was hitting 2.0-2.1x 60', mostly 2.1s.

Gear ratio has just as much to do with it as anything else...

Only way to look at it is to take shift points and where they land you in the next gear, start doing weighted averages with the torque numbers (actual torque numbers with the gear ratios involved) and see which way you get the highest average torque number. That's where you want it.

This is of course assuming the rods, valve springs, etc. can handle the RPM you'd be looking for, etc. Obviously if you have a restriction there you have to abide by its rules and you won't get the maximum from the setup.
