Default wheelie bar length

i have an extremely short wheelbase.. 1st gen crx.. so i was thinking go to the limit with wheelie bar length to help that out... but the guy doing all of my chassis work (no fwd experience) doesnt think we should go that long... what are your thoughts..

Go maximum.

65" is the rule I believe and make sure the thing is rigid and mounted sturdy to the chassis/cage No flex.

yes, 65" from the back bumper, and take full advantage of that...

I think it'd be nice if they came out with a rule that limited wheelie bar length based on the wheelbase between the wheelie bar wheel, and the front axle, rather than the current limits... i mean, what if someone has an aftermarket rear bumper that is longer than OEM? And along those lines, what would be the legal limit of how long you are able to make the rear bumper?

[edit]That would also put everyone's "Effective wheel base" at the same length as well...[/edit]

Dunno, just a random thought...

I completely agree, but getting rules changed is damn near impossible, so just build them to the limits of the rules. Sucks for the short wheelbase guys...

Yea, well we can all dream though, eh? LoL...

So, then since my rear bumper will be modified to work with/cover the back end of a diffuser box, whats the legal limit of the rear bumper length? I'd bet they would be more than willing to make a rule about that, but they won't change it to an overall wheelbase rule rather than "from the back bumper"... what if part of my rear bumper is 6" farther back? can i measure from that point? hehe...

And remember that it's from the back bumper to the very end of the wheels-- not the centerline of the wheel-- all I can say is don't ask. Thomas wasn't real happy w/ our design at NHRA Denver.

hello and i would agree go the max length. The wheelie bar acts as a "wheelbase extender".The longer the wheelbase the more stable the car is going down the track.Make the bar as wide as possible and the top bars attached as high as possible.

good luck!

yea. i also thought put them as high as possible.. but he thought it would be easier to mount them a few inches lower and cut a hole in the tails instead of the hatch..

thanks everyone for all of the reassurance
