Re: What if you did it all over again?
having a family and leading a regular life if almost impossible when building a serious/somewhat serious drag car.
Not only the money restraints ,but timeeee!!!
I feel like there are parts of my 1st child's life that i partially missed out on because i was soo wrapped up in my car. I spend more time at home now, and work on the car when i can.
BUT WHAT I WOULD DO DIFFERENT IS BUILD A TRUE "STREET CAR". Something i can get more out of than a 2-3 hour tow to the track, few 9 sec passes, then 2-3 hour tow back home...It literally cost me $300-$500 everytime i have to take my car out.
This is what you have to do to be competitive. But it sure isnt FUN most of the time.
If i had the chance to do it all over again i'd do something like Ahobbs, maybe not **** fancy and baller. (i would spend the sameee $$, but get to drive around,to the track, and everywhere inbetween at the cost of a AAA membership, fuel and tires).

hmmm this is a no brainer for me....rewind back when i thought doing a crazy D-Series was the answer. Erase that and throw in the my current k-series. Only if i did the k-series from the beginning. The car would be crazy now. Im to young for babies and marriage. Spend it while i have it cause i cant use it when im dead.

Re: What if you did it all over again?
I've been through about 30 cars in 15 years. For the money I spent and lost on each one of them, I could have probably built 2-3 8-second cars, rather than 25 13.0 second cars. Plus, I never finish what I start.
Plans now are to build a PRACTICAL street car, without a ton of bells and whistles (the "cool" things that are "in" at the time). Going to keep it as simple as possible.

Re: What if you did it all over again?
here are my $.02
buy one -- don't build one
that is the best way to get ahead -- buy someone else's partially completed, not wanted, etc project and start from there instead of thinking you have to be the cool kid and start from scratch
i will gladly take over someone else's project and call it my own as i work on it instead of losing money starting fresh
(note, i am nearing completion freshly built car right now so i have first hand, recent experience on the costs, not to mention i have bougth several already completed cars)
i know where your mistake happened and it lies with a certain white Hardtop supra, hehehe

over the years im sure i have over 40k into a neon i cant sell for 6k, coulda had a Viper or something cooler by now. Knowing that i still dont stop, i have another neon im building for Outlaw while keeping the sfwd car. Really its a disease i think, im pretty sure none of us would really be happy having something and leaving it alone.

If I had to do it all over again, I would have done it right. LOL...
I would have gotten the right tuner, bought a PPG transmission, went air to air and had 50k in the bank lol...

Re: What if you did it all over again?
Saved up little by little and put the car together on my time rather than rushing for completion and hoping to make it to an event. My car is still not finished to my liking, and I am always strapped for money. So if I could go back in time; I would have saved my money and then went from there. I regret that I haven't purchased my own house yet, and this car is my reason.

Re: What if you did it all over again?
It has to be an illness. Because honestly if i left the "sport" it would free up a lottt of money and time to put towards other activities (vacations, trips, clothes, maybe a real car-no offence to you Honda Guys, real life)..
The same thing happens with Gamers, Sneaker collectors, Clubers, etc..
But i have put it in my head that even if i left the "Compact racing sport" i would still have the itch and will be unhappy in myself.
So it's a loose/loose situation.

Buy a fishing boat.. go to Costa Rica and fish every day for the rest of my life..
And forget about dumping money into something that you only get to use once every few months. And that gives you endless headaches.. and an empty wallet..
