Default undercoating weight

I know this has been covered before, i did a search, nothing came up with a number.

Has anybody weighed their car, then scrapped off the undercoating on a CRX? I know the sound deadening in the interior is worth about 10 lbs, I weighed it when it was all out of there. But how much does the undercoating weigh?

My car is at 1950 with me in it, i figure seats, racing battery, lexan aluminum hatch =100 pounds
Front brakes, rear brakes, and chromoly trailing arm, LCA =100 pounds

Net weight=1750

I don't have any of the hood supports out yet, or the door support beams, but that should be a lot of weight also.

I'm looking to break into the 1600's with the crx si motor and me in the car.

And i heard the undercoating might be 20-40 lbs. This is very significant in my quest for ultimate low weight. Trying to make a super fast 200 hp or less car isn't easy, and weight reduction is one step.

What's the weight?

its hard to say.. because i didnt collect all of my undercoating and weigh it... but its thick.. and covers the entire underbody.. so it might push 20 lbs or so.. maybe more

after removing undercoating you can expect rust on a daily driven car correct?

You can probably expect corrosion on a street car, but if this car is only a track car, then who cares. My car I got for 100 bucks, so it's not like It's a big deal. Though i probably won't do the undercoating thing, cuz it's a hassle, and rust sucks. But i still wanted to know how much it weighed.

We did a car VERY similar...no panels, no floor (yea, it was ghetto), nothing left that wasn't vital. It was wobbly and dangerous.

Def. a track only car

what about undercoating it with something thinner? i dunno the weight of say.. rhino lining, but.. might be an alternative, definately the spray paint on a street car would be chipped off in no time at all!

I just got done taking off the undercoating on my CRX and it weighted about 25 to 27lbs. My car is a street car and i just used black primer on the bottom.

25-27 lbs, AWESOME. We finally have a number. Did you take ALL of the undercoating off? How did you weigh it? Did you weigh the car before and after? Or did you just gather up all the undercoating and then weigh that in a bucket? What method did you use to get it off?

I just used a grinder it took about 4 to 5 hours. I took all of the undercoating off besides the rear fender wells and where the gas tank goes. We weighted it by sweeping it off the floor and putting it in a box. We did not weigh the car before and after.

I will keep you guys updated if it starts rusting. I was thinking about getting my car sandblasted but there was no place around here that does it.
