trap speed vs et
Am i the only one that cares more about trap speeds than ets? Every time i ask someone what they run they just say the et and not the trap. For instance i have a friend who could only do a 15.7 with his integra and thinks there is something wrong with the car because he should be running around 15.0 I try to tell him since he is trapping at 93 his car IS quick (just boltons) he is just spinning too much off the line and losing time. Most people seem to be the same way. Personally i think the trap is more important. Your et will show you how "quick" your car went down the 1/4 but not how "fast" it is. If my buddy got slicks and cut a good 60 he could run 14s with that trap but his car will not be any "faster".... if you run someone on the street especially from a roll your trap speed or how much power youre making is what matters not how good your 60s are. If you have a higher trap that the other car you should pull from a roll regardless of your et is. Just curious what everyones opinion is on this.

trap speed does not mean a damn thing in drag racing!it is a contest to see who can get to the end of the track first.it doesn't matter if you go 300mph if you are the second one there.

I generally care about both. Last time I went to the track with my boosted 89 si, on 6psi I only ran 14.2 on shitty *** street tires spnning really bad, but I went through the traps at 104, so I know the car has lots more potential as soon as my Bogarts get here. Already have the slicks.

trap speeds are usually indicicative of who is going to beat who from a roll on the street.however, being able to get the car out of the hole at a stoplight is important too.I don't care if you run a 14.0@110 if I run a 12.20@106 I am going to own you from a stop.

Re: trap speed vs et (MrSmith)
trap speed tells u how well ur car accelerates.
1/4 mile tells u how fast it will go from point A to point B.
at the drag strip trap speeds arent as important as they are on the street. on the street u have room to "pull on" another car and the car with more hp will always win.(highway racing). dead stop is where ET matters. dead stop is all about getting out of the hole better then the other guy (60ft) and holding him off till the finish line. u can have two cars. a trans Am hitting 1.6 60' w/ 12.2 @ 108mph 1/4 times. and have a turbo civic hitting 2.0 60' w/ 12.6 @ 114 1/4 time. Even though the civic is a faster acclerating car it will not have time to catch up to the trans am in the given distance. On the highway, the civic would just pull away.
i think its safe to say:
roll on- trap speeds
dead stop- ET

If you've added some power mods to your car and you want to see what they did for you at the track you are going to be looking for your trap speed to increase. Your ET may even get slower because you can't launch it as easy (more power). It goes the same way for suspension mods for the track. You want your ET to drop, and MPH doesn't mean as much.
However, if you are RACING at the track, all that matters is who gets to the line first. R/T and ET are the only things that matter when racing at the track.

I agree with the e.t.=driver and trap= car. Trap speeds are helpful in trying to figure what you, the driver, should be running (e.t.) or at least a ballpark figure.
My last run was a 15.3 @ 94 mph. I had major traction issues that day. My 60 ft.'s sucked. They were like in the 2.6's

Re: trap speed vs et (mannyman)
lol, This reminds me of the discussion my friends and I had w/ a ricer in a GS-T. All he had was an exhaust and a BOV, o yeah a Blitz knock-off front bumper, imagine that. Anyways, my friend has a built b16 in his SI and at the time was running 15psi. His best time at the time was a 9.7 @ 85 (1/8 mile is all we have here ) The guy in the GS-T was calling his car slow and what not because it only ran a 9.7, he said he better have more mods than that to race his GS-T or he will get smoked, he could not and would not understand that his trap speed was ~15mph than his GS-T. Which means his car is a lot faster, just my friend couldn't get better than a 2.7 60' because the car would either bog or blow the tires off, when he laumched.

Re: trap speed vs et (94Accord)
good point but maybe ur friend should invest in some driving lessons. that is a shitty *** time. he should run mid 8s with that trap speed based on the weight of his car.
