Default Traction bars

Ok, I got my JimFab tractions bars but first I need to redo my IC piping to make it fit. In his letter, Jim say that first to try the bars with zero preload and adjust accordingly if necessary. I was wondering, how does the preload works ? What's the effect if we tighten the bars ? What about if we loosen them up, meaning making them longer ?

for cars with the compressor on the driverside with the intercooler piping running by the oil pan, wouldnt the bars hit the piping as the suspension travels?

Is it me or do the lower control arm brackets look like they are reversed? Those heim joints look to be at horrid angles.

That is the only way the bars would clear the h22 oil pan.

I just put mine on the del yesterday- I tightened them up after the car was on the ground. It drove really well after I tightened them a little, so I haven't loosened/tightened them any more.

setting preload at zero when I first got them on:

final install on passenger side:

do you think you can take some pics with the car on the ground and turn the wheel all the way to the left so i can see the clearance between the bar and the oil pan? My charge pipe runs there because of the rev hard 2c manifold and i dont want to buy something that would hit it and not fit correctly.

by the way, are those painted nails?

Ok, can someone tell me if I am on crack or what, but these look to be on backwards. I am looking at the mount on the inboard end of the torsion style bar. The attachement anchors look to be waaaay too highly streesed for me. Or are they supposed to look like this??

After looking at those pictures, I can see what you mean about the clearance issues, but doesn't having those bars mounted in the manner defeat the purpose of having the traction bars at all? If the force applied to the bars is intended to travel the length of the bar (I think that makes sense) and the force cannot travel, it is all forced to the angle of the mounting bracket, which (the way I would see it) would simply break the mounting points over time, and in which case purchasing those bars just proved to be a very expensive waste of time. Why not look at the way the motor was mounted and see if you couldn't raise the motor to get the necessary clearance for the bars. Or see if any other companies traction bars fit better with the H22 in a Civic???

Well, I finally installed them. I can feel the difference just by depressing the clutch in first or reverse but I still have wheel hop right now, I'll play with the ajustment tomorrow.

I readjusted the bars with some preload and it felt like **** just driving the car. I put them back at zero preload but this time at ride height and it feel much better, wheel hop is almost gone. Now I have to redo the IC piping to further test it.
