Default Staging brake problems

Tried searching, but didn't find the answers I was looking for.

I installed a CNC hand brake running the rear brakes. It's the 3/4" master cylinder version. Line runs out the back to a wilwood 10psi residual valve to a split, to the rear wheels. Fully bled. (Had the same problem before I installed the valve, so it's not that. Put it in since the factory valve is under the hood)

Problem is the handle moves about 1/4" and then is rock hard, but I can't hold the car still for crap! Anyone else run into this issue? Too large of a master cylinder possibly? They have a 5/8" version as well.

Unless I'm supposed to pull the handle to the point it feels like I'm going to rip the brake off the floor, something isn't right. Thanks for any help!

i have this staging brake which is hooked up completly by itself. the hose runs through the floor, into a line lock, then to a T, then to both brake calipers. i have no problems holding the car. simply pull the brake, hit the line lock, let go of the lever, and do your thing.

What size master cylinder are you running? 5/8 or 3/4"? Looks a little smaller diameter then mine, so i'm going to guess 5/8".

So it's sounding more and more like just too big of a master cylinder.

Ok, that link doesn't really help. I can post links too That looks like a CNC brakes hand brake, which is what I already have.

I'm trying to figure out if I should buy a new master cylinder for mine or if someone else has had this problem and it was something different.

Try to take the residual valve out and see what happens.

The first post says I had the problem before I put the valve in.

Dave- That's cool, thanks for looking. A new master cylinder is only $50 or so, worth a shot.

I have mine hooked up the same exact way minus the line lock. Do you think that could cause me not to be able to hold the car?

does the brake hold the car when you hold the handle back ? the only thing the line lock does is hold the pressure in the line, so you dont need to hold the handle.

No sir it wont. Even with both hands trying to pull it back i can even get them to hold. I can get the handle to move back a little more than MkIIRoc, but then feels rock solid.

are your brake pads shot ? can you take the wheels off the car, and have a friend see if the calipers/pads are moving when you pull the handle.

yes, that can work, but it would require an inline style staging brake, along with an adjustable style proportioning valve. personally i dont like the idea of the rear wheels getting any kind of braking pressure, especially on skinnies, and if you really gotta get on the pedal to slow the car down. seems like you are just headed for disaster. i belive it was SixSigmaRacing (danny tran) in his allmotor RSX who had a slight mishap with his rear wheels locking up with a similar style brake setup.
