Spools in T4
It has been brought to my attention that people have been complaining of spools being used in the T4 class..As far as word travels, that they are going to be outlawed by mid-season or next year becuase people feel they are unsafe?? Does anyone else got input on whats going on with this situation?? Because i know for a fact, im not the only one...

I have not heard of anything about that. I would like to know why people think that they are "unsafe?" I have one in my car, but I have only competed in one NDRA event. I live on the west coast, so traveleing to the east is not always an easy thing. But I would still like to keep an eye on the situation.

If you have a spool and an axle breaks you'll go for the wall. Whats wrong with a quaife? All the fastest cars like Jason Hunt and Brian Ballard run them. If its good enough for them then its good enough for me. People can say they are not running a quaife but I saw it when they pulled brian's tranny at VMP. I just dont think a spool is worth it if has a possibility of damaging your and someone else's car. My 2 cents.

My feeling on the situation is that are these quaife's capable of holding the power we make and able to put it to the ground..I have expolded them with 300 horsepower let alone now that im making 650..I havent found one that i would stand behind and feel even comfortable with even paying for..Money is not the issue of why i run a spool, but it has saved me from having to open the transmission so far in the last year..I know there have been some people to sucessfully use them w/o breaking but if the quaife does there on bigger bugets to be able to replace them..In my case thats why i run axels that have costed me 1700 dollars...

I am going into my second season with a spool and have never had a problem.
I have used kaaz difs and they suck, too much torque steer and cannot hold the power, ripped through type r lsd's like they were paper, but honestly never tried a quaife and dont plan to until a spool is outlawed in both programs.
Axles usually break on the launch anyway, and if it does the car goes nowhere anyway, spool or dif if the axle break at high speeds with the tires we use the car is going left or right no matter what.
When felix crashed into Jason Hunt, the axle broke on top, took a left and hit Jason in the coupe, using a quaife.
I tell you one thing i wouldn't miss about the spool,(trying to steer that thing around the track).

I have heard people say the same thing about LSD when an axle breaks. I have not seen it myself in either case. And I feel as confident running my spool as 1FSTHATCH. Now I do understand that there is someone possibly inthe lane next to me, but lets not forget, that there is always that possibility of that guy crossing the center and coming into your lane under a number of different circumstances. Just always try to keep those eyes moving, or just be really really quicker than him, so its not a problem . . . lol.

850whp with a quaife and no problems(not me, a HR car on meth). If its breaking at 300whp I think something else is the issue. I dont think they'll outlaw the spool tho, to hard to police it.

If you break an axle @ 100mph w/ a spool in a T4 car, when it yanks you to the wall and you yank it back, those 1000lb springs are going to rotate you around fast! Very extreme oversteer with skinnies on the back is an unsafe combination and a violent move from a broken axle could cause a car that is set up like this to end up in a spin very easily.
it is a street class right? How many street cars use spools? We have had the same quaife in our crx for 5 seasons.... I think we flirt with 600 hp. If you are breaking quafies you are doing something wrong .. funny the mark williams setup in the other shop car had a spool, did that pass at mir look safe when it broke an axel? With a quaife it would have never happened

i find it hard to believe that people have broken quaifes with only 300 hp...
i now that on my street car, i broke an axle going into 3rd gear, and the car pulled REAL hard to the right...(broke the left axle, and the right side tire just started spinning) also, its a pita to drive around on a spool, not to mention how hard it is even to push the car, when you dont want/need to start it up....

If the axle broke then maybe I would think twice Jason....BTW the ProDrive setup is forsale.....(the ones that were in the car during that race at MIR) NO AXLES WERE BROKEN.....
I know wether or not we use a spool or a Quaife and an axle broke it would be messy up top no matter what....thats why we opted for a complete NITRO setup on the new car.......The NITRO axles will not break...therefore my spool is not an issue....it will come down to traction and driver skill to drive through the finish line.....

I am not trying to say that you should or should not run a quaife or a spool. That is just like you choosing to have fire suppression......it is solely your choice. A spool is not going to make a car outrun a quafe car. I choose to run a spool because the only downside to a spool is WHEN a axle breaks, but i also choose to spend money on good parts (ROB MOORE NITRO SETUP). Because those axles will not break and i will have no problems. VERY SIMPLE. If NDRA is considering outlawing spools ( glenn told Rob Moore that they were NOT, just some people in the class could not handle a spool) they should think about only allowing spools to be legal if the car is equiped with MW or NITRO, ProDrive Stage 2 setups (axles that wont break) And if you want to run any other axles a quaife is mandatory. If someone has broke a Stage 2 ProDrive speakup because if you have then they are indeed breakable and should be required to run a quaife. BUT IF NDRA IS NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING WE SHOULD ALL SHUTUP AND GET ON WITH OUR LIVES AND BITCH ABOUT SOMETHJING ELSE!! REMEMBER i am not putting quaifs down i just choose to run unbreakable parts..........and yes i have to spend a bunch more money!!!! but we all have alot of money in our cars lets keep them safe. Also again i say a spool is not going to make you outrun a quaife equipped car, so there is no performance advantage after the burnout box.
A spool does not make a car a race car, domestic guys have ran spools for years on the street. Ask your grandpa

IMHO.
i dont want to see someone crash into a wall or crashing into me cause one or the other is going to happen.
i hope the rule gets implemented.

SLOW street cars should not have a spool. Because they don't need one

actually my car will have fire suppression -did u not see those pics of the dsm burnt down to the ground?
i just dont wanna ruin my car going down the track. or watch it burn down.
couple people told me to never be too safe

Yes, it is a street class, but what makes a spool unstreetable? I drive my car around like a daily driver..Never has had any effect on any driving capibilities yet..

Pickle</TD></TR></TABLE> what is so streetable about your axel popin out when you are making a u turn going into dairy queen? If you think you can drive a car on the street with a spool and not break stuff , you havent really had the car out on the street...

Alright, so a car with a spool cant make 180 degree turn like a normal car would, but if you are looking that fine for a reason to not have one, then there's no reason we run have of the parts we do in a street categorized class..So i feel that is what power street is for..mild street..and T4 class is an extreme street..
That is funny though..i was there when the other shop car was disassembled and i really can't recall this broken axel your discribing...
All in all if regulations do change, i'll run a quaife but until then, I feel as safe as can be..

The spool that I run is from Mark at Nitro. I have to agree with what a couple other guys said about spending extra money for parts that don't break. Although I do not have the complete set up $4600 I did not have just laying around. So I run the Axle System axles. Happy with those as well.
