What causes the block to split like that?

A sleeved block is supposed to handle that though. Is this a known thing with D-Series?

it happens on bseries as well. i personally seen Millers block from last year split the exact same way. instead of streching the headstuds it pulled the head and studs up and thats where it split.

Think outside the box. The block absorbs the stress more than the sleeve does... not to mention the head (studs) dont fasten tinto the PRESSED sleeves either. Te BLOCK absorbs the stress of the resisatnce of the combustion / power stroke. The head wanting to pull up yanks on the headstuds, that are secured in the block enough stress enough times with enough force and crack. . Look at the brace... Thats one of the reasons its braced as low as it is.

It utilizes the majority of the block to help disperse it.

Capiche?

The plan was Arias all along once I went sleeved block, but we had the mishap last year and the Vitaras were a band-aid fix like theidealone said.

Yes, we will be there running the cars for sure!

Nothing to the back. I haven't seen anyone have a D block crack starting in the rear yet, and there is not much to work with back there either.

Thanks, your car was always an inspiration as well.

Same as before, but with the finished CNC billet parts instead of the prototype stuff I ran last year.

Thanks man, I never though it'd progress into this either. As long as we are still having fun with it, we'll keep pushing!

Yes, above ~600whp quite a few guys have cracked them. The D16 block casting is just not nearly as strong as B series blocks. Take a good look at the different block castings, you'll see many things that you may not have otherwise noted!

By the way we got her all together and started. Everything seems kosher so far, should have some low boost dyno results here in a few days.

I can't promise anything, it's looking like we will probably be too busy.

I think we all are just itching to start racing up here. The rain is getting old.

LOL. Since you didn't help out and are too busy with your Ruckus, I'm not going easy on you anymore...

We put her on the dyno today, here are the results off of wastegate which runs 15-19psi @ 7-10k rpm. Dotted line is last years Vitara piston motor at identical boost for comparison.

485whp/292tq @ 15-19psi

~100whp more at the same boost level as last years Vitara motor and carrying power out to 10K, I'm very happy with that!

It made 501whp/302tq with 1 more psi of boost. So it took 20psi to hit the 500 mark. Close enough to my goal of 500whp @ 19psi for me!

After we pulled her off the dyno we put some street shoes on her and took a few pics:

I'll be driving her over to the NOS Charged Citrus Launch:Car Meet on Saturday at Griot's Garage. Any of you local guys that are coming, I'll see you there tomorrow/today!

TQ numbers look fine to me for a 1.6L with a 62mm turbo and a large hot side.
