Default some electrical help please...

Im installing a battery kill switch so i need to lengthen the wire from the battery into the switch mounted on the dash and back to the 2 wires that normally come off of the battery..
I have 2 questions

1) what is the SMALLEST gauge i can use without causing electrical issues
2) how do i join that larger gauge wire to the 2 smaller factory wires that go to the fuse box and other item (starter i think)

and is there anything else i need to address

There are tons of threads on this issue alone.

You need to search the archives for this.

ive seen tons of threads on the recomended wire size.. ive seen no threads on how to connect the wires with the exception of a power junction box like for car audio.. what im wondering is if i can hard wire this without the use of a junction box..

if i wire it like this do i JUST put the switch in between the fuse box and the battery?

Plain and simple because you refuse to search....

No matter what you do, you need to kill the alt and battery in one switch.

About as basic as it gets....

im not normally such a ******* noob... i was "searching" and only finding a couple threads.. but when i just started LOOKING i saw there were a ton of threads.. so my appologies.. since you appear to know what the expletive you are talking about i hope you will answer this as well... is the "relay box" the under hood fuse box? and i see you have the terminals on the switch marked + and - theres not really a ground on a 2 terminal switch? or at least on mine i dont think there is...

so to understand better.. you are saying battery and alt on one side and the oem fuse box on the other with an inline fuse... lastly what type of fuse am i putting in there? and minimum size wire? i really dont want any bigger than 4... but i will use whatever i have to.. battery is still in stock position and killswitch is in dash.. thanks again for the help it is appreciated

If you want to be legal for competition, the switch has to be in the rear of the car and marked which way is off. Also usually the one wire goes to the starter and the other goes to the underhood fuse relay box. You can get a solder type terminal end that both wire fit securely in together and solder them in together if you want to join them both. Hope that gets you in the right direction.

not for competition more just for piece of mind but i appreciate your input..

in the STOCK position there are two wires coming off of the positive terminal.. so what im gathering is i can remove them.. tie them to four gauge wire (via distribution block OR some type of soldered link) run it to the switch.. then run it back to the battery.... the part that confuses me is that some people are talking starter.. and others are talking alternator.. so im confused about what those two wires are exactly.. and finally am i going to need a fuse in this.. i imagine a fuse off of the positive side of the battery would be a HUGE plus in case that wire grounds otu somewhere..

thanks again to everyone for all the help..

First off, the fuse is not necessary if you are using the stock relay box under the hood. There is already a 100amp fuse in there.

Second, if you use a distribution block under the hood you can tap your starter from that instead of the relay box.... if you do this then you need to fuse the lines from the distribution block.

Understand?

ok there are 2 wires that go to the positive terminal.. one is to the underhood fuse box and the other is to something else im assuming its to the starter? my concern was putting a fuse in between the positive terminal and the first terminal on the switch in case anything happened the fuse would go..

kind of.. but i gues the ONLY part im confused on is i think i HAVE to use a distibution block.. and as far as i can tell im literally going wire from switch back to the two wires that used to be attached to the positive terminal.. sorry im not normally this dense...

maybe if i knew for sure what the two wires on that terminal were id understand better.. i know one goes to the fuse box because i can see that.. but i am not sure where the other goes.. im assuming the starter?

thanks again..
