Roll cage rule question
Long story short, my cage has to be bolted into the car. Welding is not an option. It's going into a 91 STD hatch. So far the main hoop and door bars went in fine. I got to the rear bars and ran into a problem. They land right on top of a frame rail. That means I can't just put a 6x6 plate under the floor like NHRA wants. Does anyone know if I can make an "S" shaped plate and use long bolts that go through the frame rail?
Doesn't it say something about a minimum of 36 sqaure inches? If so then I wouldn't be suprised if you can use a slightly larger plate since you have met the min. Requirements. The phonecall to the aforementioned number is your best bet to be certain
I tried calling a couple times and left one message. No luck so far.
What I read of the rules was a 6"x6" plate on each side of the floor. The plate on top will be a square, flat 6x6 plate. The one under it will have the same footprint, but will wrap over the frame and use long bolts going through the frame.
I wish I could just weld it in but the race I'm doing has a budget cap on the car. If you weld the cage in it counts towards your budget, if you bolt it in then it doesn't.
