Roll Cage Help Please!!!!!
ok, i have a 92 integra that is going to be pretty much a drag car. i am getting a custom 8 point roll cage put in, but the guy that is doing it asked me what rules or specs i need it to be fore, i.e NHRA, etc. i am confused, i thought a cage was a cage, so any help would be appreciated!!! also, i am not to sure if i am going to make this into a autox car also, so please any insight would be greatly appreciated!!
thanks
thanks
Build it to NHRA spec, that way you are legal for every other drag racing organization. As far as road race goes though, I am not sure but I believe the cages are different and require added bars and gussets compared to a drag cage. You can DL the rule book complete with pictures at http://www.NHRA.com
thank u sooo much!!! i thought that a cage was a cage... but o well. i think im going to just have it built to NHRA spec... thanks again
If oyu guys want to save a little bit of money e mail me, and you can also check out amestripbars.com. They are by Art Morrison, pre-bent just need to be notched and welded. You can get either DOM or chrome moly. One of our DA's has the same cage. Usually cuts some of the cost off of the price, due to the fact that the shop does not have to measure and bend the main hoop. The rules are pretty straight forward though:
1. Shoulder bar no lower than 4" below not above driver shoulders.
2. Off the main hoop rear support bars can not be more than 5" from top of main hoop (most fab shops put right on the top of the main hoop, that is why you should remove headliner.)
3. Driver side bar that passes through driver door, needs to be between driver shoulder and elbow.
4. Main hoop needs to be positioned so that there is 6" from top of helmet to top of main hoop.
5. Gussets can be "sandwiched" bolted on the fllor pan.
6. Rear bars need to be braced or welded to frame or top of rear strut mount towers.
Hope that helps.

how "drag car" is this going to be? are you talking never plan on driving on the street? or some weekend drag racing but still streetable? (i.e. sportFWD) or proFWD? only reason im asking is because some modifications you do could put you into another class you don't want to be racing in, or not pass tech! i know with sportFWD the headliner is mandatory. anyways.. have a look.
