Question about Slick sizing
I have a fully built SOHC, minus sleeves. I have built this setup to achieve about 350-400 at the wheels. Probably closer to 350. Anyways, I am getting ready to buy some slicks. My plan is to go mid-11's with this setup. I think this is definately possible, I just need some help/tips/pointers on buying the right size slicks for my stock Y8 tranny.
I was planning on 24.5x8.5x13 slicks. However, after talking to a very reputable tranny guru, he advised me to go with some 22x8x13's. His reasoning was that because I was running a stock final drive, that the 22x8x13's would be better, and that the 24.5's would be too tall.
My only concern is traction. Would I get enough out of a 22x8x13 or should I compromise and get some 23x8x13's? Any and all comments are welcome!!

considering the amt of power you are making and using the stock D16 gearing, you can get away with using the 22x8x13.
It will still give enough bite and mph at the end. You can use the 23x8x13 as well, but it will sacrifice mph, but may give you that needed bite if you are having a hard time hooking up with the 22". It really all depends on the whole setup too such as turbo size, max rpm, and gearing.
Most likely you will be ok with the 22" I'd go with that since you can just move up 1 size if you feel you need to.
The 24.5" is not necessary to begin with. It may even be too much. You're goal is 350-400, but if you realistically only make 300 or so, then you're safer with the 22x8x13

Ok cool. That's pretty much what he was saying too. The only thing I was worried about with the 22" was traction. But like you said, I can always step it up if I need to.
Expect an IM pretty soon. I'll be ordering a slick and rim combo thru you guys!

Sounds good thanks!
In my opinion, if you really dont know what size will work in your setup, its best to start out smaller and work your way up. Obviously you try to get the best size possible, but choosing a bigger slick can OVERpower your car and have a hard time pushing it and can cause more stress on the drivetrain when it can be prevented. IF you do choose a smaller slick, if there is still some spin on it, you can adjust tire pressure if needed. IF thats doesnt do it, at least the little spin still saves your drivetrain and gives you the chance on moving up one size.
PM me later if you have any other questions.

The 22 or 24.5 refers to the overall dia. of the tire. This has nothing to do w/ the amount of traction being applied to the pavement. The 8 or 8.5 is the width of the tire which contacts the pavement.
