Default Properly Sized Slick

450whp
lsd equipped b16a2 tranny
9k redline.

99 Civic Si Coupe.

I would like to use my steelies so I don't have to buy wheels..

Thinking some 24.5 x 8 x 14 would be nice?

Am I on the right track..

W/some seat time, would love a 10.9x. Thats my goal anyway..

Best place to get a set?

Thanks all in advance.

what you have to keep in mind is the width of the rim and the slick you are using. Each slick has a recommended wheel width that it should be mounted on. If the rim width is not close to the recommended slick width, the contact patch of the tire can change.
The best contact patch works when you follow the manufacturers recommended wheel width. Each size and manufacturer has their own recommended wheel widht.s the general rule is usually no more than 1.5" from the width of the slick. so the least rim width I would us if on an 8" wide tire is a 6.5" rim.

I don't have the steelie in front of me..any idea on the width of a 14" oem?

I only say that b/c alot of people I know that run 700+ setups have used this configuration..

So it's nothing new...just curious if it will suit my needs?

Open to all advice/suggestions though.

I personally havent seen 700hp+ cars use steelies at the track the last 14 yrs I've been following SC drag racing.

but the 14" steelies are a 5.5" wide rim

Will that work however for a 450whp car?

Won't have enough for slicks & tires...

If you cant get slicks and tires. You can to look toward drag radials (they work on stock wheels)

Or maybe you can use the new DOT street slicks ?

By the time you buy drag radials, you're at about $300/pair or so.

I'd wait and try to save up for the RIGHT slicks that you need to use. It will be a better in the end and you'll be happier with the times you get with a set of the right slick size and wheels.

I actually have a set of DR's for the street I run on.

Car is more a weekend warrior daily driven on nice days to work and such.

So for my needs, what is a properly sized slick and rim?

I posted on a local forum that tuned my car and this is the response I got.

MT Tires

Hatch ran 24.5x8x14 on Honda Steelies and ran 9.8@149.9x Approx. 700whp

Baby D same tires 11.7@124 approx 425whp
Moxjet same tires 11.5@128 approx 475whp
24.5X8 14" steelies
12.0 @ 117 350whp

Now I am not saying I am dead set on doing this..just reviewing my options and prices.

Well, it is the difference between doing things correctly, and uncorrectly. Just call Exospeed, talk to them over the phone with your hp numbers, tq numbers, and what you are looking to do with the car and you will know what size slicks you want. They also sell Lenso's which are a great wheel to put your slicks on.

I didn't get to were I am today by 1/2 assing. I have no doubts about lenso's being great wheels, as I would love to have a set. Unfortunatly my $$ doesn't go on trees, so I have to watch what I spend it on. If I beleive I can make do w/some steelies then I would like to give it a try..

As I said earlier..just throwing some options around as they have worked for others.

what you really have to do is check if they actually have them in stock at those big mail order places. Many times, they are backorder items for them and can take several weeks.
