Default problems shifting to second...sometimes

since I could remember I have always had issues shifting to 2nd when racing. maybe it's me, but what happens is, I have a great start. 1.7-1.8 60' and try to get it to 2nd as fast as I can and it's like I can't get it in sometimes. last time at the track I was 2 for 3 getting it in 2nd, so I want to say it's me but what can I do differently or change? I know it isn't the tranny. I have had 2 completely different tranny's. I am using a S2 short shifter, and OEM shifter stabilizer and shifter bushings( these parts are old but the shifter doesn't feel sloppy). so in all this is my setup:

CC stage 5 clutch
OEM shifter stabilizer bushings
S2 Short shifter w/ s2 shift ****
cable ys1 w/ GSR internals

I'm wondering if the short shifter is to blame. driving around town it is perfectly fine. I just don't know what to buy and not buy.

I had problem getting into 2nd at red line due to motor flexing too much from stock mount, switch to some stiffer mount and problem solve.

If you have stock mount

What process do you use when shifting? Sometimes, people pull on the shifter and then push the clutch. With a short shifter, doing this could result in you trying to cram it into gear before the clutch is released fully. If this is the case, you have probably messed up you syncros, hub, and/or slider. Normally on a hydraulic trans car, you could install a larger diameter clutch master cylinder to speed up how fast the clutch releases, but on a cable tranny, you need to either put a stock shifter back in to slow down the shift so the timing is better. Or, you could always granny shift. LOL

Got this problem too... Thought it was the snychro on my first tranny. Replaced it with itr tranny, still hard to shift into gear at 8k rpm. I did adjust my clutch pedal so the engagment is higher, hopefully this will help me out on my clutch and shift timing.

I wonder if its a clutch problem?? I see you have the same clutch as me, I changed my synchro and 2nd gear is fine now, but 3rd and 4th are a bitch and ive never had an issue with them before! Plus they looked 100% when i had it apart! Here is my thread from about a week ago:

It seem like quite a few people have shifting problem with CC stage 5, i have it too but it seem like mine is shifting fine.

What i notice when i drop my blown tranny for a different one was, the finger on the PP look flat it doesn't point away from the PP like other PP or when it was new.

I don't know for sure, but I can remember the last run I had, my foot was to the floor and I still couldn't get my 2nd gear engaged, then once my rpm's dropped, I was able to get it in gear and keep going. I am going to try to adjust the cable to have more tension on it and i'll try that. sometimes it will work and sometimes it won't. I don't think it's the clutch as I have had a ACT that did this also. synchro's looked good when I put the gears in, and it's only been raced less than 5 times, so I don't think my synchro bit the dust yet. I grinded it on 1 run.

For some reason I know exactly what you mean. Im running the same clutch and ever since I could remember (been through 2 CC clutches, stg4&5) I've had problems shifting smoothly. My itr tranny shifted like butter with a full face disk, but everything went to hell when I went to a puck clutch. Now it will grind every gear if I shift slowly.

Edit. The first time I put the stg4 in. I had an aluminum flywheel. It would straight up lock me out of second at high RPM. So I changed flywheels and it made a night and day difference but still grinds if I let it run up into vtec/boost and then shift easy like I normally would.

the slider is held by the shift fork (for 1st and 2nd gear), it has the "teeth" that make contact with the syncro befor locking into the gear. The slider you are having problems also has the reverse teeth on it.
