ok in the past ive had bad experiances at the track my snapping axles inside of my tranny thus ending my racing day...
for preloading the clutch, when staged pull the ebrake gas and let out the clutch a little?
just wondering, ive always ran 2 step will lets say 4500 be too high to preload? if so what is a good rpm to preload at?
thanks, sean

Don't let out the clutch as much, you can feel when it starts to touch and just leave it there. As the light turns let out and the car will start to move slightly, then let it out completely. I do it without the e-brake even without rolling through the lights.

holy **** are you serious dont even use the ebrake? i thought that was the only thing holding back...well ill take my stock z6 out soon and try this out
thanks for the help, it'll take a lot of practice but i eventually have to get used to it, what axles are you running, i am just worried because this is with a d series and i really dont feel like dishing out a grand for axles

Exactly how I do it and I haven't broken any axles either (except I am at 7300 rpms).
I think if I tried using the e-brake I would just *** my launch up lol...

I do it with the e brake, you really can't load it much otherwise. If you watch the videos of me in the teg, you can see the rear of the car squat on the line from being loaded.
Yeah I haven't been to the track in a while, but I have kinda tried it with the e-brake a little bit on the street. I'm sure with some practice I'll get used to it.
If I search for archived posts with your name can I find these videos? I want to see this squat you speak of. ::searching now::

Just watched that first video and sure enough your car was squating.

I used to use nsxmatt's method, but found that i started to snap axles at the hub, so next year i'm going to move to e-brake staging, i know i tried it on my 11.2 run and i took a bit getting used to with the rear end dropping but not letting the car roll out too much, but next season will be a new method.

I use the ebrake also.. like Tony said.. you cant really load it much without the ebrake.

ok so you guys recommend taking out the 2 step all together? you find that preloading the clutch is better than building boost off the line, plus i really want to not break stuff so yeah...

I use the aem 2 step building about 17psi at the line with the e brake up slipping the clutch (preloading).
Without the 2 step i dont build any boost which makes me bog really badly off the line.

I am the same way.
Just let the pedal sit right at the point of engagement, and slowly let out.
I have never broken an axel.
