pre- loading the clutch?
When ur at the line, you let the clutch out just to about where it wants to grab. If you keep it here, its hard on the clutch but it puts tension on other parts such as axles and makes the shock a lot less for those parts and helps them not to break.
If you are running a stock trans and/or alot of power it is real important. There is a lot of slap between the ring and pinion on a stock trans. When you dump the clutch that slap is what will cause you to tear the ring up. I am not saying that it will not happen if you pre-load but it will last a lot longer with pre-loading. Pre loading will also take all the play out of the axles and everything else in the drive line.

Depends on the cluth you run, but in most cases yes. Also how much end play the crank has.

you guys must be running the wrong engines then.... I've had the same used 4 piece thrust washers in my motor since the beginning of 2002, also same axles too (edit:changed from tubular to solid, 1 yr+ on each). Biggst problem for me is going to test-n-tunes and domestic guys play tree games trying (uually in vain) to get out first. I end up having to taks the disk out every 2 months and bead-blast the iron out of the copper pads. But I dont run low 9's so I'll shut the hell up

the only pre load you need is from the e-brake! you pull up the e-brake and bring the clutch to the bite point were the car wants to move then depending on what kinder racing your doing would depend on when you dump the e-brake
word of advice you need to practice your clutch control do you do not light up your tires feathering is the name of the game BUT what ever works for you do not be scared to experiment!
