Possible class/rule changes for IFO...
Cliff I like the old rules and I agree with Pellis, "dont fix what aint broke"... That being said, we will be out at every IFO event we can no matter what the rules are
someone wasnt around during the idrc days appearantly. thats how it used to be when they started jumping then the sport evolved just as it is doing now. Hell Brent Rau had his awd eclipse racing a bunch of old school hot rod configurations.
I personally do not like the idea and here is why ........
1. The only advantage I see out of this is to slow down the FWD class to make it more competitive. That is not going to happen, you can go just as fast on a 67 air to air and 24.5 tires. All you are going to do is move some guy's into FIP that have a different set up.
2. Fwd cars need to race fwd cars, If you want to run FIP build a AWD or RWD, it is ten times cheaper and you can go faster on a lot less HP.
3. There is nothing broken with the way it is now, if there are enough cars the class is split, faster cars in one and slower guys in the other.
4. I hate to say it but FWD cars are not the most consistent about going down the track for the most part. Splitting classes up even more will just make for more Bye runs.
5. So when there are cars on 24.5 + A2A + 67mm running low 9's will the implement for 2013 be 22'' slicks and a Fat chick next to you ?
I am sure some feel differently, just my 2 cents, just remember that the fastest car does not always win

nor about lexan windows etc etc etc there is alot still open that can be done there is no weight limit stipulation either, doesnt say no wheelie bars etc etc
define the rules, and iron them out then see how people feel about them.
i personally never liked being in a class by build where i went against a guy with a s372/gt40?? with my a2a 67mm lol, but i did it and got beat every time. it is what it is you eithe radapt to rules or you stay home in your town and run brakets the choice is always up to you.

We are on 24.5 tires right now, and will be this season regardless, the only reason the A2W was added was for consistency with air temps, december IFO is 40 degrees outside and ones in august are 110 degrees.
One of the reasons I love the FWD racing community is it is harder to get a FWD fast and employs more logic. I would like to line up next to people fighting the same physical laws.
And moving some cars to another class is splitting the class.

How many really fast shop built/owned Outlaw cars are there really to warrant is change? You`ll probably see alot of cars stepping down from 72mm to 67mm if this happens.
I will only be at the GA and the AL race's this year, but.... I like it the way it is. It seems like we would need all kind's of rules if the classes are combined, to keep it an even playing field.
I'm using " even playing field " loosely

I think it should stay how they are, If anything you should do regions because even here in KC we barely have enough for the FWD class now if you split us up we wont even make a full field. I mean u split up FWD/FIS already and that is doing well. If we split it up even more then we wont have full fields. Just my opinion but ill race whatever..
there is no even playing field lol come on man some people get product handed to them for etsting and they use it during events as to where the average consumer doesnt have the same opertunity this makes an uneven playing field.
Sounds good too me, Exept the air/air. If thats the case no dog boxes eighter.. I think thats just as much as an advantage as the turbo. If your trying too slow the cars down, downgrading turbos wont be the only thing that you need too look at. It has been proven the 67mm can go just as fast as most cars on 72mm.
shop ran and spnsored car should be on there own level in there own class thats just my opinion and many wont like it at all
its hard to keep something going and alive when the average guys struggles to get 20k into his car to touch 9's when shop cars have many ways of getting parts for themselves. this tend to make the little guy on the come up say screw this and pull out and away from the sport all togather

The suggested class restructure in the original post would be similar to true/wild street.
Great points, one reason we've always had FWD in one class is figured what most preferred. FWD is not as reliable as the A/RWD cars.
There aren't many restrictions in FIP right now, but IF ever made outlaw FWD cars go into FIP, there would definitely be more restrictions (no lexan, dash rqd, etc).
Keep posting, we're reading...

There are events where this new structure would work out, BUT there are definitely events where it would not. Vegas event last Oct is a perfect example (what HPgonewild said). All of those 25 or so cars would have been racing with the low 8 second Supras.
Not sure why people are scared of the change.
It's not being changed for 1-2 cars. There will be quite a few that will be in it. Def make the 72mm class more full
I love jason millers rule
