Does anyone have any experience using the Phantom Grip LSD?

so far, in my exp it is like this,

people and the diffs they use - 4 types:
1 - the hand full of people having luck with obx diff
2 - everyone using and hating the phantom grip
3 - 70% using the factory diff open or not
4 - 30% using a quaife

i never got one to work well enough to like. plus with all the problems they had with their cuff, i kinda always stayed away from them.

 

If you're on a budget, buy OBX. I would rather go open diff than Phantom.

 

It is CRAP!!!. I just found out doing a tranny class at school.

 

quaife is the way to go. if it is strictly a track car and you dont have the money, just weld the diff. but dont do that if its driven on the street cuz turns will suck. if you dont have money for a quaife and it is a street car, get the obx..

 

I would hate to break an axle with a welded diff.

I have a Kaaz and it works great at the track but it chatters in low speed corners on th street.

 

If you use the Kaaz fluid in the trans with their diff, it chatters about 1/10th of what it does without it.

As far as the phantom grip, i think the name describes it's effectiveness pretty well.

 

Nolan, I wouldn't chance it with the Phantom Grip. Either Quaife or OBX depending on budget. You're gonna make the next one right? Let me know if you need help I'm just around the corner.

Yah, I’m trying to get everything ready for the next event. I’m still searching for a few things, B-series trans., shift linkage, and a starter. Once I get everything you could help me put that chit together haha, drinks on me .

 

Been rocking the phantom grip for three years now and it has seen 3 track days, countless highway pulls, and a lot of miles. I dont drag the car hard at all but it lays to lines of rubber when i do. It has been holding over 300ft/lbs of tq for about 3 season now. Putting a gt4202 on the car this year its going to break so.....in with the quaife!

oem axles can withstand 500+ horsepower depending on a handful of variables. that being said, i wouldnt dump the clutch at 7k with a twin disk and 26's while using a welded diff on stock axles. either way, the hassle with pulling your diff and then welding it up, youre better off getting the obx.

 

phantom slip.. thats all I remember. Last time I had it on the car was back in 1999 or so. all I know is that it wasnt worth it.

 

blah blah blah, I own the 1st phantom grip ever to be sold in the state of KY, the owner of our local shop bought it for his drag 26'' tired, 600 hp prelude sometime around 97or 98, the diff lived through "many" of his transmissions, one of which was a brand new warrenty replacement that I bought and now have been burning out, drag racing under my unforgiving foot for 4 years now, which by the way has had yet another case transplant since, due to shattering the previous one. . .

 

Funny how some parts work real good with some people and that same part works like **** with others. Since I'm on a budget right now I went a head and picked up a OBX LSD.

 

dont do it. get an obx for a few hundred more and you will be a lot happier

 

wow, i'm surprised no ones been an *** and told you to "SEARCH" since theres a buttload of threads about phantom grips and all the other diffs. You must be liked or know someone who knows someone

 

I did a search and went to each manufacturer site reading up on it. My question was for an opinion from others now, not a year ago. Thanks everyone for there insight.

 

Phantom Grip is better than an open diff, but is not in the same league as any decent, true LSD. If you can at least step up to the OBX, you will be much better off.

I really think they had their place when the choice was to run and open diff or spend a bunch of money on a Kaaz or Quaife, but now that the OBX is in the middle (price) it just doesn't make as much sense.

I'm not sure i would buy an "lsd" named Phantom Grip.

 

Not a fan of the OBX but, I would say use it over a Phantom Grip..ANYDAY! LOL! In time invest in a Quaife...its a truely quality product and they stand behind it for life!

 

I took mine out for a quaife. I didn't personally like it or fell comfortable using it.

 

We got them in a couple of our cars including out street class All Motor car. No problems with ours. We raced all last season and one race this season and it's holding up well. Can't see spending all that loot on a Quaife or something. to Mr. John Brown for great service too.
