PECTEL ECU's
Why haven't more people used Pectel ECU's in their drag cars. They have quite a petigree. They're on par with Motec M8XX's, EFI Technologies, etc... Just wondering because I've had great experiences with Pectel ECU's (both T2 and T6) in applications from 11,000+RPM N/A 4-cylinders, 900+hp. Turbo 4-cyl., to 800hp+ N/A V-8's.
Roush uses them in the Ecotec engine program, and you guys all seem to follow what they've accomplished with that program.
Just wondering....

most people would rather use an aem that is plug and play than build their own wiring harnesses which is a big pain in the rear. aem's have more features than 95% of the people use anyways.
Arn't they a little more exspensive then motec. That could be a big problem. I think Gary G's crew chief john told me the system they ran was like 10,000.
No I believ they are about $4000. If I recall. and they are trully awsome. A nice engine managment that is proven. I've seen it used with a few open wheel cars and I know Turbo Joe Morgan was using it with great succces. We got an AEM for our race car, Plug and Play, ended up making a new harness, tuff to get parts and tech help from them, real peice of crap. Wish we would have spent the money on a motec or Pectel.
A local guy ran the Pectel on his car, had some problems BUT it was also a Refurbished unit they provided to him. I do believe he got his money back, but who's to say he didn't do something wrong. Pectel had a 88-91 Civic out a few years back didn't they??

I am 99% positive it was, it was a Red EF Hatch with BIG Pectel stickers on it man. Oh well, I can't find any info on it anywhere anymore!
It ran some low 11's high 10's a couple fo years ago, turbo car

i've got a local 2.3t ford friend that's been talking pectel to me for a long time. he was pricing them around $1,500-1600 as in house refabs.....i had never really heard anything about them, besides him, till now.
i mean, makiing harnesses sucks and all...but it's not hard, just time consuming. if they're really $1,500 ish...that'd put them in playing wiht BS3, DEFI, Haltech, and EMS.....

Actually I was trying to invoke a positive conversation! Now if you had a clue about me I would take offense to your statement, but I think I'll overlook your opinions about me. This thread is in response to a conversation I had with someone you all (h-t) look up to in a big way....
Anyhow, let's get this thread back on track.
Pectel ECU's were imported by Pectel Technologies untill Pi Research was purchased by Cosworth/ CART/ Kalkoven (sp?). Now if you want to buy them you purchase them from Pi in Indianapolis. Pectel Technologies does some pretty highend motorsport harness'. Last I used them for wiring, the guy doing the work learned to build harness' for F1 Harness Systems Ltd. in England. It has been a while though.

Hey AutotechRD, who the hell do you think you are? lol Brian is a good guy, give him a break. A little intelligent conversation in here about management systems wouldn't hurt anyone!
Thanks Tony.
One of my favorite things about Pectel systems vs. others is the units you tune in. Pectel uses msec. making the math easy to calculate while others use VE %. Also, I like being able to tune in whatever units I choose for temps and pressures, not just kpa and deg. Celcius. Not really anything major, just preference I guess. One thing I wish Pectel had is MPH based boost control. Another useful tool would be an engine RPM acceleration rate limiter.
