Default No filter

So, whats the deal with running w/no airfilters, is this bad on the motor? i can see if a big leave gets in its not going to run good, but other than that is there any major disadvantages? any advantages?

Thanks

disadvantage all around unless you're running it on a race car. any kind of foreign objects are bad on your rings and valve seats.

just drop the filter when your at the track, i would still put something there though to keep out large objects ie. a leaf, or piece of paper or plastic or any random thing. Ive seen people use hosiery (sp?) just to keep out the big things.

I think by drag car he means a car that gets an engine rebuild every few runs.

On any car even a race car I would use a filter unless the path to the engine has a radiused lip on it of some sort. This will help increase flow through the inlet of the intake pipe. The thing is you have to have a filter that has enough surface area to upply enough flow for the engine to breath without choking it down. On a turbo charged car since the inlet of the turbo is pretty good from the start on most turbos I would suggest just go to Walmart or where ever and buy a metal strainer cut it off the handle and hose clamp it to the front of the turbo.
