Default new boost controller...your thoughts!

other topic was locked(i fully understand as I overlooked the sponsor thing...took care of it) so lets try again

Im sure your aware of the accuracy of the ams-1000 boost controller. We are developing a boost controller for those who do not need all the stages and bells and whistles that the ams-1000 offers. The unit will have the same accuracy as the ams-1000. It will offer 2 stages.
the first stage will be instant when the input is turned on. The second can be instant but will offer a ramp just like the ams-1000 has so you can target a larger target pressure and bring it in smoothly. This unit will be pure function so dont expect to see a digital display and such. it will be in a plastic enclosure with either a terminal strip or wires coming out of it. There will be three led lights. 1 to tell you the unit is on and the others to signify when that stage is active.

There will be rotary switches under the cover to make your adjustments for target pressure and ramp on the 2nd stage.

This unit uses the same control algorithms as the ams-1000!

Only applicable on dual port wastegates.

We have had so many calls about a simple controller that offers the same precision as the ams-1000 that we would be stupid not to go forward with it. Id like to get the unit to the market for about 300-350

your thoughts would be appreciated!

thanks,
sebastian

you can turn the 2nd stage on whenever you want. either on a switch, button, or use an output on your EMS to trigger the 2nd stage at a certain VSS level...you could use a nitrous output to trigger the 2nd stage at a certain RPM etc etc etc. it would all depend on how you wanted to set it up.

do you prefer switching a ground to the unit or 12 volts for the activation of stages?

on my ams-1000 i switch to ground just because its easier, and the less hot wires the better.... it seems most ecu based outputs seem to send a ground signal. not having to use a relay would be nice.

This sounds like a very promising unit, simple and to the point.

keep in mind even if the activation is the opposite of what you want, all you have to do is use a relay and it will still work.

thats another awesome feature in the ams-1000, is that you can pick if you want a +/- for any of the inputs/outputs

the only complaint i have with the ams-1000 is the terminal strip, i wish it would have a connector on it, rather than the terminal strip. works like a champion though

Will the controller be based around using Co2 for wastegate control, or manifold pressure? I am aware that manifold pressure has its limitations and range of control based on wg spring/backpressure, but its just another thing to worry about between rounds. If you are going for a larger audience with the controller, it would be much better suited towards manifold pressure control since most cars do not run Co2 (even though i realize how well it works ) simply due to added cost and complexity.

sign me up for one. I would love to be able have just a 2 stage set up that will ramp boost with the push of a button, esp in power street on the DOT tires.

just like the ams-1000 you can use either manifold pressure or co2 as the supply to apply to the top of the wastegate, it is up to you.

I myself would like to see a simple electronic boost controller (such as what you guys are designing) but with TWO MAPS.

Many cars that need variable boost control, need two stages of boost on their pump gas setting, and two stages of boost on their race gas setting.

I would put a deposit on it RIGHT NOW (well knowing the great things I've heard about NLR) if there was a simple way to run two maps with two boost levels per map.

Example (using my DSM here for sakes):

Pump Gas Map:

WG Spring (17psi) until 75mph (3rd gear when boost hits) then ramping up to 23psi.

Race Gas Map:

25psi unti 75mph then ramping up to 40psi.

Any possibilities of this?? Thanks.

So this is just like any other EBC with scramble boost but it "ramps" into the higher boost rather then just going up as fast as possible (just like a gain on some BC's)? Maybe I'm missing something but sounds like the price is somewhat high for what it is (having no display and all).

our line of boost controllers are very different than any other ebc.

do some reading on how the ams-1000 boost controller WORKS....this will work the same just wont have as many of the features, but the way it controls boost will be exactly the same.

there are 2 stages.

Changing the target pressures to meet your requirements Dependant on the fuel you use will be up to you. All you have to do is change the values in the controller .

You will have wastegate spring.
then you can activate stage 1 which will target a value instantly. This can be used for the launch etc or however you want to trigger it.

Then you have your second stage that has a ramp feature to it. This can be used as a primary stage if you first stage is used for the launch. How you use it is up to you...its pretty flexible in that aspect.

so it can technically be 3 stages if you consider waste gate spring.
