MSD distributor problems??
the coil drivers were made sooo low quality, that MSD changed vendors for the internals...
this is the excuse they gave to me fo the back order of drivers last year....
ive have had problems with the driver, but never once the distributer yet.....

i cant tell if thats sarcasm or not... but from what i saw they use the msd to distribute spark, but not to get the cam/crank pickups, etc...
and im sure the race car parts are inspected much better than the garbage that gets sold to us.
and have you ever looked at nascar.. they have 2 6al boxes with a selector switch so that when one goes out they hit the switch and the other comes on. so they dont even expect one msd box to last 500 miles</TD></TR></TABLE>
haha it woulda been good sarcazm but im serious.. i do notice them using msd crank trigger setups on their cars,(i know you can run a car off crank signal alone) so maybe you are right on that, i havent looked at their cars enough, but i did see those 2 things.

yeah, thats what i figured.. and they probably ignore the cam signal once the engine is running.
also keep in mind that the mustang guys always have problems with the msd distributor when they goto a real standalone. the pickups are junk.. they dont seem to have the distributor falling apart problem like we do though.

It's soo hard for me to buy those parts when I'm working on my Tahoe b/c I've been driving imports all my life and I've been programmed to think AC Delco/Autolite=****!!</TD></TR></TABLE>
whats wrong with the autolite plugs, thats all we use, with great success and never had an issue.

Most of the GM powered cars are running crank triggers.
Ecu controls timing from this...
There using the distributer to distribute the spark.
The ecu uses the cam pickup inside the distributer to know when to fire the injectors.

I had to goop up the rotor screw with blue Loctite because it kept coming out, and had to JB Weld the pickup in place because the pin.... SUCKS.
Garbage.
Garbage.
I am also a victim of the rotor screws backing out. the rotor flew off, smashing the cap into a bunch of piesces and took out the oil press sensor.
Got it warrantied the same day. Took the new one apart and red locktited everything inside the cap hahaha.

Well, tell them to stay on the porch. Never said anything about having to stay 'home'

not that it matters or has anything to do with this thread, but all of the gm ecotec powered vehicles, run a msd digital 7, distributor, and fast xfi ecu. We use msd crank trigger, and msd cam sensor, in the distributor. The xfi needs cam sync all the time.... Msd components, work great, like anything else you have to solve bugs. As far as honda distributors, I have no idea, but good luck.....

I was told that when the GM cars were running Pactel ecus they had to set them up to ignore the cam signal after starting because they would loose the cam signal from the MSD dist.

Pectel also needed cam signal... We would monitor it to check cam sync, and adjust as necesary. Pectel is very flexible, but was not setup to ignore cam sync on any of the hotrod or profwd cars I worked with...
well the problem with my msd is the car wont start sometimes with it....i put on a stock distributor and it starts right up....or when i put the msd back on the car it will start fine (occasionally) but if you wiggle any of the wires it shuts the car off...so then i took apart the jumper harness for the msd i soddered all the wires together and it still does the same thing....i sent it to msd and they said it was fine and that they ran tests on the distributor and msd said it was fine...now that i got the msd back it's doing the same thing all over again...so i put another stock distributor on and it fires right up...i dunno im clueless
