MSD DIGITAL 6?
i tried a search but came up with nothing. i was just wondering if anyone has tried the MSD digital 6 plus. i'm running on hondata s200 so no two step. i know the box has rev limit, two step and single stage timing retard. what do you guys think? it's not really expensive either.
you didn't have any problems with it? i heard of some people having problems with some MSD products. i tried to stay away from them for the most part but i found one for a really good deal. plus i can use the two step. wonder if it helps build a little boost at launch...
also, can anyone tell me what "locked out timing" ( i don't think this applies to stock hondas but want to make sure) and how do i know whether my plug wires are solid core or not? honda oem plug wires. thanks. i'm a little skeptical about this box so if i'm gonna install it in my car, i just want to make sure i got all the facts straight.

i was wondering if that worked that way. still reading into the instruction manual and stuff. just out of curiosity, how much do you retard your timing?
actually, can someone help me with the two step and retard install? i just need a clarification. if i understand correctly, i can run both wires (two step, blue; retard, pink) to a microswitch and mount it to my clutch pedal with a 12v source and ground. i figured out the rest of the install though.

with the msd digital 6, you are only allowed to retard the timing of the box 9.9 degrees. On my buddies prelude , two step @ 6500 and ignition retard at 9.9 degrees, it manages to build about 10-11 psi of boost. With no timing retard it will make about 5-6 psi of boost. This is a t4 flanged pt67-76. You cant pull enough timing to get that SFWD two step that everyone loves, but it definately does the job. No issues with it for 2 years. Another buddy used his on a ek hatch with a gsr on spray, 100 shot. Retarded the timing of the box 4 degree's with no issues. BUT god forbid should it screw up, your gonna go through an electrical frenzy before you find out whats wrong.
that's not too bad for not messing with fuel at all. guess i'll have to go install this bad boy and see what happens. thanks.
sorry to keep asking questions but i'd like to know how some of you guys have ran the wiring exactly for the two step. what you used and stuff. thanks.

I have heard horror stories about lots of products out there. I use a stock distributor (stock ignitor, rotor button, cap, etc) with an MSD digital 6, HVC coil, Hondata S300, Bullseye Power S374 Race cover. I know there is a lot of better stuff out there, but this stuff does work. The key to maximizing your budget is to save a little here and there and put it to where it can do the most good. I have been to 49 lbs boost and no ignition problems to boot. The T1 trigger will probably stabilize everything under extreme conditions and be a lot better, but so will a Motec unit. If you can pick up the box cheap and it is in good shape, use it!
Here is a dyno chart that was from last rear, compliments of Tempest Racing

There are failures. I and myself have had a couple failures. If you setup the 2 step properly, it will build as much boost as you want.
Your setup/turbo size/engine size will have a BIG effect on what it can do with 10 degrees of retard. Every engine is different.
Overall, it's a very nice unit, but MOST people have ignition problems with the stock distributor. Then throwing on a big coil and a digital box usually speeds up the death of the stock ignitor.
Power levels would be a big deciding factor for me to go with a digital 6 box vs a pro 10 setup. If you are using it for the 2 step function solely, it may be better for you to upgrade your S200 box to get the 2 step and use the stock distributor @ lower power levels.

what did you do to fix your distributor problem?
right now, i'm using a stock distributor with an external coil. msd blaster. i wanted to upgrade to the s300 but it's like almost 600 clams whereas the msd box i can get for 150. i'd like to see how much of a difference the box makes on the dyno too. but mainly, i needed a decent launch control setup without having to buying a whole bunch of stuff or spending too much so i can race.
