Re: MIDWEST IMPORT WARS IDEAS
Rules being enforced, payouts actually being payed out, follow one set of rules, probably just go by what IFO is doing or nscra is doing.

Re: MIDWEST IMPORT WARS IDEAS
Once upon a time i was working on the same project, which was to make an actual event for the locals with actual classes to build on and etc.etc...
So if it helps any here was my basic format for getting this thing going.
#1. Get shops involved that want to get involved. They work and build peoples cars who go race so it shouldnt be a problem to have them and their clients involved. That brings stability, diversity and participant/spectator count up.
We bring shops in by having them help sponsor classes that they specialize in. Nothing huge..maybe a few hundred to help cover prizes, trohpies, peepee touches..etc..etc.
Example - RWD Turbo class sponsored by GRAuto
I did talk to a few shops locally before and they were up for it.
#2. Spread the events apart more than 1 month so its something to actually build up to. Season opener, a couple mid season and season ender. Unless everyone else thinks otherwise? I dont know how geeked up i can be about a monthly event, but thats just my opinion. Oh, and especially if you have sponsors shelling out money for each event...i dont know how well the return on investment is for a monthly check going out for events but only time can tell.
#3. Classes. IFO style rues, pretty simple. Enforce a few strict points to make sure things are balanced..listen to what the class racers want. Payouts are X amount with this many entries and XX amount with these many entries, simple.
I had something along these lines going and actually going pretty well for about 5 minutes. That was until i couldnt get a venue locked down. Then i realized that i wasnt willing to gamble any of my money on an event. So i went a different route.
Good Luck...and you have our support if you make something happen.
Love,
Mikey

thanks mikey. thats how i plan on running the events, i just need to get a group of shops that will participate for each class. not having 5 sponsors for a pro fwd class and only 1 for say a awd class or a rwd class i working on this everyday so i can get the ball rolling as soon as possible.

Re: MIDWEST IMPORT WARS IDEAS
My brother and I ran in the PRO-fwd class at Import Wars in '08. Just about every race we ran had more than enough for a field of eight so we never really had payout issues. I can see how GLD would be hesitant to payout when there were only one or two cars in the class (as in '09, '10, '11). They should have made that clear up front before people made the drive for it (our drive from STL was about 6-1/2 hours). I'd be fussy if I didn't get what I earned; however, if I knew it needed a full field to justify full payout BEFORE I made the trip, I would be a little more understanding. So like MikeySpec said, putting all the payout info up front would be pivotal. If there are conditions like car count, post race tech inspection, car legality, etc make it clear in the flyer.
My second biggest concern is car legality. GLD tech guys didn't know the basic safety rules and the racers had to plead their case against illegal cars. At an event at KCIR, the tech guys did little more than check the battery and wristband. They never looked at the harnesses, helmet, the cage, wheel studs, blatant leaks, etc. I know it's tough to do with only one or two guys but if you can get six or eight guys working it, you can tech a long line pretty quickly. With all the shops involved, it shouldn't be hard to find qualified dudes to do this.
If it looks like something will come together, I can get the STL racers to jump in. There are quite a few dedicated racers here who are looking for something like this.

Re: MIDWEST IMPORT WARS IDEAS
count us in, IFO rules and consistant payouts for X amount of cars. even though the payout is not why we come, we just want more people participating so we can have more fun
tech is important as well, NHRA book rules for the time you run-pretty simple
its too easy to tell tech 'i think ill run a 13' then pop off a 10.50, lol
racergti: id like to see you back at import wars, or this event. we had the most fun back in 08 when it was actually busy at the races

Re: MIDWEST IMPORT WARS IDEAS
Any more planning on this? Tracks are filling schedules and the opportunities will start to thin out.
Is everyone gonna be satisfied with GLD's effort for another season?
It looks like St.Louis is on the IFO schedule for September 23rd. The details arent posted on the IFO site but at least they have a date.

Re: MIDWEST IMPORT WARS IDEAS
I tried my hardest to book R66, but after a month discussing, they ultimately passed on the event... sounds like a big corp hassle over there.
I also tried GLD, but they were not interested either since they host their own Import events.
Byron is too far from the city to attract a big enough crowd. I've been down that road with Chicago before and failed miserably.
Please come and support the St. Louis IFO on Sept 23rd. www.ImportFaceOff.net

Tech Considerations:
A functional seat belt and helmet are required. Batteries must be secured (no zip ties, bungee cords, etc) and no loose articles are permitted within the vehicle. Drift participants will be required to utilize fluid retention devices (sweatbands are commonly used) and have a spare set of tires available unless the vehicle was trailered to the event. Cracked windshields will not be permitted.
$500 in Cash Payouts
A large area of asphalt has been set aside for drifting similar to last year, additionally BIR was kind enough to allow us to terrorize turns 10-13 of their road course (advanced drivers only)! Event structure and coordination will be handled by Dirty Love but feel free to share your ideas below in this thread!
Drifting presented by Ksport
A combination of skidpad and gymkhana drifting will be available. Trophies will be awarded to the winners of the competition which will be judged for style in a skidpad format.
