Methanol Question?
Hi,
Thinking about the possibility of running methanol on my setup., but don't really know too much about meth. I understand that I need about 40-50% more injector, but I'm not sure how different it is when tuning. What A/F do you tune the car to? How much more timing would one normally add?
As you can tell, I'm pretty new to meth, and wondering if anyone can offer a good, book, resource or website with some info. Or if you can post some info or PM me here it would be great.

Marc,
First of all go to bed dude! I was thinking of going with alcohol but I figured that it would be better to run gas first and get the car sorted and then later on switch. You have to run %50 more injector and you need a regulator, fuel pump and lines that are compatible with alcohol since it's corrosive in nature. Tony gave me a lot of info on this subject. Check this link out http://www.grapeaperacing.com/...s.pdf

I ran methanol on a B16 all motor engine. It is very hard on the components in the fuel system. Even with compnents like aeromotive pumps and filters that are supposed to be compatible, I had to rebuild my pump a couple times. I found that running high octane race fuel through the fuel system after each race increased the life of many components. We basically drained the meth and then started the car, when it began to run shitty(from being so rich) we shut it down. If you dont do this, plan to spend a lot of time and money replacing pumps and injectors.
It does have its benefits though. Your injectors should be able to flow about double. For gasoline AFR's from 12.5 to 13.2:1 you would need to have 5.4 to 5.8:1 AFR's on methanol.

You will need to double your injectors. You will need to change your oil alot more. We change it after 3 runs. At the end of an event we would put new oil in and run it on race gas for a few minutes. We lower the feul pressure by half with the gas so that it will idle alittle better. It is alot more work but well worth the effort.
This is a good website and The guy's name is Julio Don. http://WWW.ALKYCONTROL.COM

Shant,
Not a good idea with a fuel system designed for gas since methanol is corrosive it will make short work out of your pump and regulator after time. There was a very unique Hot Rod Civic that ran NIRA before being banned that ran on methanol that didn't have its system with gas after every race instead it would sit on the trailer with meth in it. That car would blow engines like mad and it was because the regulator deteriorated along with the pump going south due to the meth being left in the system.
I think the more research you do the better. Talk to some of the domestic racers as well because they've been running alcohol longer than we have. With that being said many racers here have it down good running it.

What about just making a fuel map to idle the car around 1000 on pump gas and loading that map while you're flushing out the methanol? With everyone running standalones, it doesn't seem like this would be too difficult to do.

Forget Methanol, go Ethanol! Ethonal is not corrosive like Methanol and you still have the huge tuning band characteristics. Requires about 50% more fuel than gas, but not as much as Meth. You do not have to pickle the system with gas and it is readily available. It is a clean burning fuel and does not pose the health risks that Methanol does either. We run Ethanol in our cars and we love it. You can make the same power on Eth as you can with Meth and it is sooo much easier to work with
If you have your wideband reading in Lambda, does it matter what fuel you are using? It just requires more fuel with alcohol to get the proper Lambda value than it would with gasoline, correct?
It works great on a turbo car My friend tuned a car and it made 500whp on pump gas running.I'm in the process of installing it on my LS/Vtec set up. I figured you could use this instead of race gas to run higher compression ratios.
