LENSO VPD Drag Wheels - Do you need wheel screws?
Just bought some Lenso VPD's. Unlike Bogart or dedicated drag wheels, they
do not have a provision to use wheel screws. Have any of you turbo 4 cars
have had any problems with the wheel spinning inside the tire? Pro's? Cons? of
using this wheel?
Thanks

I have spun the rims inside the slicks with the lensos, thus the reason I switched to the welds. I have seen people screw the slicks on lensos before. Brian

Just mark the wheel and slick with a grease pen and launch it. Once it starts moving, it's time to drill and put in some screws. I never had any slip on any cars using lensos but every car is different. Weight, slick size, power level, all play a part.

Any wheel can have tire slip. It just depends on the power, the track, tire pressure, etc. Its hard to tell which factor makes a tire slip on the rim. but once you're making big power and you're hooking those slicks hard, there's always chance of the tire spinning on the wheel.
Rim screws or beadlocks are the solution.

ours did not spin more than a inch or two in a full day of racing with the 24's or the 25's running tens all day. but we have seen some people with the same wheel making 150 hp less than us spinning the rims like crazy. ive seen a few people use screwed lenso and exospeeds with no problem except for a an occasional leak. nothing that couldnt be easily managed at the track though.

lol if it were'nt for the horrible vibration that comes with the tire spinning on the rim it would be all good.

I don't know about those wheels, but we have noticed a difference tire to tire. We had tires that didn't spin at all on 1.3 60s then we just put new tires on the same wheel and the wheel is spinning in them badly. Same tire, just new ones. Screwing them tomorrow.

FWIW we have 10 screws on the inside and outside of the front wheels. I do belive it is making the tires leak air faster, but its not bad, over a 1 day event we dont have to put air in the tires. Hope this helps the OP.

Re: LENSO VPD Drag Wheels - Do you need wheel screws?
24.5" MT's and 1.6 sixty foots and no screws in my lensos.... when i mount brand new slicks to them they will spin a couple inches on the wheel the first two passes but then after that they dont move. i think lensos are made to fit a tire really tight around the bead. because we had to use a ton of snot and 50psi to get the bead to seat. and the snot is what probably caused them to spin the first couple passes.

Re: LENSO VPD Drag Wheels - Do you need wheel screws?
i am slow (12.0) and i still have the slicks move about an 1in every 5 or 6 pass. put a screw at every spoke and between every spoke.
the tire does not leak faster because of the screw, because it does not go fully though the tire

If the tire is on the rim when you drill and screw them in, make sure you DONT put the drill bit through the rim and tire.
You have to drll through the rim and once you begin to feel the drill catching (like its at the end of the wheel) slow down and run the drill slow until you break through.
Drilling through both will cause the tires to leak constantly.
The instructions recommend dismounting the tire but I have done dozens of sets with the tires on, 0 problems.
