Snap on and matco is not the same as any body else use craftsman side by side with snap on for 15 years as an auto tech and then come back and say there the same I'll break 50 craftsman tools to every 1 snap on!! It's just like car parts you get what you pay for you think eBay parts are as good as t1 parts or Garrett or precision????

Harbor Freight. I broke one of them from there, took it back and got another. Worked well enough for me to figure out that my K20 had terrible leak down results.

I've been using one from summit for years, I think it was like 60 or 70 bucks. No issues with it

Don't use harbor freight. I've seen 2 of these bad right out the box.

So basically don't buy a cheap one.
Anyone have any input on the OTC 5609?

there is nothing wrong with a cheap leakdown tester. ive been using a jegs leakdown tester for years.

the only thing that can possibly be cheap about a leakdown tester is the gauges. the regulator is something that you can find on your home air compressor (or turbonetics boost controller :p )

Thats why you take it back and get another one, and if the other one is on sale then I think you get some $$$ back. I think thats what happened in my situation.

The gauge is what screwed up on cheapo leak down tester. I have used straight compressed air with no gauge at all to find that the ring lands were toast in a cylinder before.

I have a craftsman compression tester as well and never had one problem with it ever, and it has been used many more times than my leak down tester. The HF leak down tester works fine for the cost IMO.

I guess you could probably break just about any tool if you do not know what you are doing with it.....

I got the OTC 5609 ....it's cheap $68 shipped....comes in a case with different sized fittings. The main thing I like is the compact design and a case to put it in to keep it from getting broken when I'm not using it.
I couldn't justify the cost of snap on when I may use this 5-10 times a year
No one here seemed to agree on one brand so I took a chance on otc

We use an old school snap on tester. Every once in awhile they pop up on ebay but it has one gauge and is built into the case. Its the ****. Older than grandmas underwear but it is built to last.
