Interior Metal Painting for the Race car guys.
Hey guys, Im finishing up stripping down to bare metal on my hot rod class crx. I wanted to check with some of you guys what you did for painting the interior (floor and all the panels) im going to be using a allumium dash, and allumium cut door panels. Did you guys sand, prime, and then paint, or just layed down a coat after removing the sound deadner??

Yeah we used to dip road race cars after welding in the cages, drops alot of weight. only problems with that are the suspension components that are made into the subframe. the clearances are off and the threads are eaten a little. good idea though for a drag car.

Re: (PACIF1C)
originally We left the car with the paint and no clear coating thinking that it would heat the interior too much. Well needless to say any scratches and oil mark dosent come out. Oh well when my new cage gets in its getting a new coat of paint WITH clear coat!-pdang

Re: (bambooluv)
on my car,
i had the whole thing sand, media, bead blasted.grinded away some "undercoating" cause the sandblasting didnt do the job that i thought it would.
-- the bondo(to fill the bumps from welding the gas filler door, side moldings, and antenna hole.
- the car was "etch primed" (some sherwin williams army green stuff), - the regular primer,
- the sanding...
... and than the paint... its looks mighty fine i might add..
.hoping to pick it up from the paint shop this weekend...we'll have to see.
