Default How to protest?

I was thinking about this the other day when I was bored(which is all the time). On one occasion in houston(NHRA) the line judge was signaling us to hold on because the person we were racing broke in the water box, but did make it to stage and had oil coming out of the car. We had already pre-staged and he signals us that we have a single run, so we stage and the autostart goes. He doesnt notice we staged but still has his hand up to hold up. Light turns green, he turns around and signals us to go. So we did do the run and almost didnt qualify(had to make another qualifing run next round).

We protested, but we had already made a run. I think Jojo had the same problem at the NHRA finals where he still ran when the judge told him not to. So in this situation what do you do? Do you not make a run and protest at that moment? What is the proper way to protest without getting disqualified?

shut the car off seems very logical if you just shut down...maybe you broke too?

I think thats what it says in the rulebook somewhere. You just have to shut down, not make the run and protest on the spot. When Jojo made the run, he went against ruels and track officals I think automatically dissqualifying him.

when qualifying i don't think you can protest, because its not 'in competition'...you're not racing the competitor, you are racing the clock.

Since this was only qualifying, can't you just back up and start it all over again? I'm assuming the track officials understand that the other guy broke, hence the big hold up.

doesn't the tree started control the tree and abort the run ? if the tree is still going and he didn;t stop it, just go on with the run ... I would do that, they can;t disqualify you on a qualifying pass, can they ? the tree was set and you go thats it ...

you have to protest a run before you make it!!!!
if you stage and make the run, you've excepted the run, and theres nothing you can do.
the best thing to do is back out of the staging beams, and let the starter know something is wrong.
i dont know about the autostart deal cause we never use it at my track. the only time we've used it is for our NHRA race during the super classes, because theres so many of them and they all know what they are doing for the most part.
but to end it, you have to protest before the run.

Even if the light turns green, your time does not start for qualifying until you break the beam. There is no need to protest even if the other guy breaks down. Obviously there is the whole mental factor when something like that happens because there is quite a bit of confussion. When that green light drops, take your time and then go. But yeah with a million officials at the starting line telling people different things, I can see how it would get frustrating.

Let's say I break into your house

A lady wrote the best letter in the editorials in ages!!! It explains
things better than all the baloney you hear on TV.

Her point:

Recently large demonstrations have taken place across the country
protesting the fact that Congress is finally addressing the issue of
illegal immigration.

Certain people are angry that the US might protect its own borders,
might make it harder to sneak into this country and, once here, to
stay indefinitely.

Let me see if I correctly understand the thinking behind these
protests.
Let's say I break into your house.
Let's say that when you discover me in your house, you insist that I
leave.
But I say, "I've made all the beds and washed the dishes and did the
laundry and swept the floors.
I've done all the things you don't like to do.
I'm hard-working and honest (except for when I broke into your house).
According to the protesters:

* You are Required to let me stay in your house
* You are Required to add me to your family's insurance plan
* You are Required to Educate my kids
* You are Required to Provide other benefits to me and to my family
* (my husband will do all of your yard work because he is also
hard-working and honest, except for that breaking in part).

* If you try to call the police or force me out, I will call my
friends who will picket your house carrying signs that proclaim my
RIGHT to be there.

* It's only fair, after all, because you have a nicer house than I
do, and I'm just trying to better myself.

* I'm a hard-working and honest, person, except for well, you know,
I did break into your house.

* And what a deal it is for me!!!

* I live in your house, contributing only a fraction of the cost of
my keep, and there is nothing you can do about it without being
accused of cold, uncaring, selfish, prejudiced, and bigoted behavior.

* Oh yeah, I DEMAND that you to learn MY LANGUAGE!!! so you can
communicate with me.

Why can't people see how ridiculous this is?! Only in America
.....if you agree, pass it on (in English). Share it if you see the
value of it.

If not blow it off......... along with your future Social Security
funds, and a lot of other things.

Well that about sums it up
