How to launch an Automatic
I live in southern cali and on sunday nights I usually tag along with my friends to the street races. I have a 95 Accord, 4 door, automatic and people still insist for me to run them. According to one of my friends to race an automatic you have to put one foot on the brake and one foot on the gas and when the flag goes down just take the foot out of the brake. I tryed it and I dont see any difference. Before i used to rev the engine in neutral then slam it into drive, but I heard that just f*cks up the tranny. Any suggestions on how I should launch my car?
Thanks for the help.
Thanks for the help.
Do not rev in neutral and drop to drive. You car will not last that long doing that. If your at the track then hold the brake down and floor it. When your ready to go just release the brake. That's the best way but stil not good for the auto tranny.
what i used to do was one foot on the brake and the other on the gas. I'd take it up to around 3k rpm and one the light hit, i let off the brake and mash the gas down. It used to help out. Once I got the turbo put on i noticed a big difference since I could sit there and build boost. If you plan on really working on your car you could look into a torque converter and that would help out alot.
Thanks for the help guys, I think im gonna try what AutoEXturbo said about how to launch the car. right now im gonna go try to find out some information on a torque converter, because I have no idea what that is. Thanks again.
This is a good place to start. http://levelten.com/ They have the torque converter and some other things. My car's not an automatic anymore and I know there isn't alot out there for them, but they should beable to help you out.
