The Honda is not gonna make it to the track this year
I had a slight problem with my daily driver mustang that will prevent me from finishing my Honda for the track this year. I was coming back from a late night McDonalds run when I decided to jump on the stang a bit.In 2nd gear at about 4500-5000rpm a huge bang erupted from the front of the car, sounding like somebody smashed a sledge hammer over the hood. Smoke pour out from under the hood and I was sure I was on fire.I slammed on the brakes and reached for this pos 2lb chrome apc fire extinguisher at the same time (while I was doing this,Im thinking to myself now I know why the a-hole previous owner installed it) but by the time I got the car stopped and opened the hood the smoke cleared with no fire in sight,Thank God. I look at the engine and see the belt for the s-trim is gone, I was like, shiet, maybe I got lucky and only threw a blower belt....wrong,as a peered down to see where the belt went,I notice the reflection of oil on the ground,I look behind the car...HOLY SHEEP SHIET! for about 200 yards there is this 3 foot wide path of oil that followed my car to a stop. It looked like I broke open a 55gal drum of oil and pour it down the street.I couldn't believe 5qts made such a mess....anyway looking back at my mess,I noticed the balancer/blower pulley was smashed into the water pump...damn cast crankshaft broke and wiped out the shortblock.
cliff notes...I went to McDonalds and the stang took a Mc Doo Doo.
not even the balancer was spared
timing chain cover
only thing that kept the crankshaft from leaving the party was the timing chain
mains #1 is gone, main #2 and 3 are still attached to crank but ripped out of block
this pic you can see main #3 upside down on crank
so that's were main #1 went..
when the crank broke, the pistons came slamming down into the block and mains
all 8 rods.....bent,at least they didnt break
new design...3 piece crankshaft with 2 mains still attached for quick removal

This pic made me laugh!! I don't mean laugh like it was funny but laugh like HOLY ****! I've never seen this type of damage before, especially at such low rpm. By the looks of things you are lucky the block held onto the crank. Good luck getting everything back together.

sorry to hear man, so i guess you had oil problem which cause the engine to blow, or the engine blew causing oil to get all over the place.

Man, I hate to see carnage like that but I like the pimp backup ride in the pics. Got some Huggy Bear white walls. Is that an El Dorado?

when the engine blew, the crankshaft, rods and rod bolts punched holes in the oil pan causing the oil to get all over the place...also two pistons broke thru the bottom of the cylinders causing blower/intake/cylinder pressure to get into the bottom half.

man, that is ugly.
take a look at those ford crate motors... from what i hear, you can get a lot of performance for relatively minimal $$$.

Re: The Honda is not gonna make it to the track this year (eddiecut)
I have seen some blown engine pics from a Mustang that were just as bad or wait a minute worse.
I work with a guy that all he ever worked on is Stangs and that is what he races of course. He was making right at 700whp on the stock cast crank on the dyno when his let loose. He has a ton of pics of what was left of that poor engine. He had aftermarket everything except for crank and I think maybe the block. Anyways to make a long story short the engine or I should say the crank let loose at about 6000 rpms and annihilated everything in its way. The only salvagable part from that engine was the blower. Everything else was cracked honestly the block came out of the car in 2 pieces it split right down the middle. It was crazy!!!!!!
I think the guy that I know was trying maybe to set the record for most power made on stock crank but that didnt happen haha.
