Help! Axle Stuck in Wavetrac Diff
i am thinkin about getting a wavtrac lsd you say the ones that have problems are earlier models, so have they fixed this problem with new ones?
We got the trans split apart, the axle is still stuck in the diff with the outer case. Gonna send it back Monday to Wavtrac...they said they would pay for any damage caused by it.
i really don't get how wavetrac buys out quaife and then stuff starts getting changed for the worse? That really makes no sense. My quaife is probably 8 years old!
They didn't buy out Quaife as far as I know, the US importer just started there own company making Wavtrac. I could be wrong but never heard that. I know Quaifes can still be purchased. We are selling both.
Autotech used to import Quaife. Autotech stopped importing Quaife and started making their own diffs named Wavetrack. Quaife is still made and still imported, just not by Autotech.
I have dealt with this same problem a few times now. I have one of the first Wavetracs and found out the hard way that they have this defect...other than that its a great diff. But anyways, I contacted Wavetrac and tried their method of spinning the axle to center the clip...no luck whatsoever after a few hours. I then tried a slide hammer...no luck. Pryed to mighty hell with some bars, a hammer, etc, no luck. Wavetrac was out of ideas and I had tried EVERYTHING, even stuff I found here on the forums. Well, I tried one last thing...and it has worked every single time since. Take a small pry bar, and using your foot, pry the axle between the end and the case...use your hand on the control arm or anything to give you leverage, and taking a hammer, hit the end of the axle, while keeping strong and constant pressure on the pry bar...it may only take a few whacks or may take a little while, just be patient. If you think about it, its the smartest way, it keeps constant pressure on the clip, while the hammering will help align it, and it wont slip back. I found it easiest to just take the axle apart and just deal with the end, as it keeps less weight on the assembly and allows much easier re-aligning of the clip...I did it that way twice and it was MUCH faster. If done carefully, this will cause no damage and is a safe means of dealing with this issue every time. Just thought I would share my experience to help anyone else who may get stuck...I know it sucked for me...
i purchased a new quaife after autotech came out w/ their wavetrac.
the only thing is, the quaife nolonger comes w/ a lifetime warranty since it was autotech who always offered the warrany on the quaife in the first place.
im hoping i wont need it
Please don't post comments like this that aren't true. Quaife still has a lifetime warranty on all of their differentials. You have nothing to worry about if it breaks, your covered.
excuse me?
when i purchased my quaife i was told by the distributor that it will no longer have the lifetime warranty since it was autotech who supplied the warranty in the first place.
and when i recieved my quaife it did not have the lifetime warranty card with it like the previous quaife diffs i have purchased.
so you tell me, what info do you have that i am unaware of ?

Go to www.quaifelsd.com and register your dif. Its covered under warranty. Call the shop and have them contact the distributor to confirm if you dont believe me.
cheers

but thanks for the link, i left a message inquiring about the warranty and when i recieve a reply i will post it. btw, i didnt see anything about a lifetime warranty on their site.
who knows, i could have been given the wrong info, but like i said my newer unit didnt come w/ the same lifetime warranty card like the old ones did. we will see
got a reply back from Motovicity and looks like my info was incorrect.
according to Motovicity, all quaife lsd's pre and post autotech carry the lifetime warranty.
this is not what i was told previously, but oh well.

my girlfriend has a wavetrac in her road race integra...although the lsd itself is functional...we have had axles get stuck 3 times now where we have to drop the tranny in order to get the axle out.
Her car has been at Autotech for the last 3 days and they are still working on it to get the axle out. Keep in mind, this is after the updated part has been replaced by Autotech. Good thing is Autotech is willing to reimburse us on the labor
We are really frustrated because changing out axles now is like a clutch job
We think this is the last draw for us and we are looking at another brand...Does Mfactory get stuck axles? (sorry this is off topic).
