Default to handcuff or not to handcuff

with the power i am making, i am starting to get scared, especially with how high i am launching.

so far i am 540 +- whp, launching at 8200 (preloaded) and tranny is holding up.

should i handcuff? it is a street car BUT i just drive local, so 5th gear loss isnt the end of the world.

PROS AND CONS PLEASE!

handcuff / of story, you dont want to have to buy a new bellhousing and 4th gear or maybe more gears cause of the shafts riding against eachother. and maybe even have to buy a new clutch after all the oil in your trans get all over the clutch discs and glazed them over. the libertys gears cuff works great

ties the counter and main together so they dont spread apart or force together. i thought it was to keep them from spreading.

but from what dave said:

it seems that they like to collide.
dave please clarify.

let me start this off with, "i am no engineeer by any means, so correct me if im wrong"

judging by the direction of the rotation/cut on the gears/location of the gear, the gears would indeed be "pulled together".... 4th gear would "pull" the counter and main shaft into eachother, as well as the ring/pinion being pulled into eachother throughout every gear, the highest amount of stress being placed on the "bellhousing" portion of the trans case in 4th gear(think of a long lever as opposed to a short lever) ..... think of it like this..... / <-- thats your mainshaft, then we have, \ being your countershaft, then another \ and / being your ring gear and pinion gear respectivly, all of these gears trying to mesh properly @ god knows how many RPM's, a CAST aluminum case, so something has to "give" eventually.

so we have a / \ / \ "type pattern" all of these gears are going to try and "ride up" on eachother, which in turn will crack the case. the actuall gears (1-4) are trying to ride eachother (pull into eachother) through every gear, and the ring and pinion are also trying to ride eachother through everygear, both being "pulled" in opposite directions, 1st gear being the least likly to crack a case, because it is more "center" in the trans, and 4th being the worst case scenario(sp) because of the height of the gear compared to where the ring/pinion are located in the trans.

i dont know how complete/right/wrong..... of an explaination this is, ive had a few beeers tonight. so take it for what it is.... this is my interpratation of what happens to a transmission when it cracks case's...............

from what I was told they push apart so the gears are not meshing all the way together and they just ride on the tips of the gears , cusing them to just strip off , I have had this happen once so far , I welded some braces to my trans case to make it stronger and so far so good , but if it takes a **** again it is getting the "HANDCUFF" cus it is a bad bitch lol

I strongly recommend a liberty handcuff, if you do not mind losing 5th gear.
At some point they WILL start spreading, breaking gears and cases.

My Vote: Handcuff

We can sell you a Liberty Cuff or you can buy the Liberty Cuff from Buck02, I do not care, JUST BUY LIBERTY PRODUCTS!

Libertys Gears

If you ever go to a LG gearset, you will use the cuff you already have. So it is a part you would use as long as you had a B-series trans.
