Great Article ...
Hello everyone,
I wanted to pass this along. It is on the NHRA.com website and is a little bit of drag race history. I was fortunate enough to grow up a couple doors down from Larry in Anaheim Hills and his son Bob and I spend many a night out there at OCIR.

Phil Burgess (spelling) has some great articles. Alot of which I learn more about my dad Don Moody) in these articles from yesteryear. Stories that were told at dinner or in the desert around a fire that sounded pretty far fetched to say the least. He can paint a picture of his stories for sure. Almost as if you were there to begin with.

Hindsight being 20/20 I wish I would have gone to OCIR more often when I was stationed at George AFB Mar 1977 to May 1980. Made it down there a couple of times. I still have my OCIR jacket with the big patch on it.
Worked the scales at Pomona for the Winter Nationals 78. Attended the Winter Nationals and World Finals at Ontario Motors Speedway those years too.
We used to race the 1/8 mile at George AFB every other weekend. Then when Bernie Longjohn bought Palmdale we'd go there.
Good times back then.
I'm reliveing some of them now with Ryan.
Life is good.

Everytime I read it, I get chills down my back. Its intense for me I guess because I was never allowed to "Race". It didnt matter what it was. But my dad and I are alot closer than those days now. He calls every now and then and asks how the race weekend went and then tells another story from back in the day.. (His days)

Some years ago I travelled to California from the U.K.
One of the reason was to see some Drag Racing at Orange County Raceway because I had heard so much about it.
I own a book which has every racetrack in the world listed in it.
So I followed my map to the address of the track listed in my book.
When I got there I couldn't find any Drag Strip, so after driving up and down for 15 mins I stopped to ask someone for directions and was told that 'the track used to be where that shopping mall is now'
I was totally gutted to say the least.
