Icon7 First time down the track-input needed please

Finally got the chance to go down the track. I didn't do as well as I expected.

-I shift really slow
-lazy launches
-sucky burnouts
etc.

Im taking all the input I can get. This is a new thing for me. I've never driven a car this fast and On slicks. last time i was at the track was 1 1/2 ago. last time I was on slicks was back in 02 when I made 270hp on an LS. So it's like starting over. Please add input So i can run the consistent number I know the car is capable of.

what size slicks? Get it up on the launch control (around6-7k) ride the clutch out of the hole a little bit. work on your shift speeds a bit to keep boost up, For the burnout, get it on the launch control, e-brake on, in 2nd gear and let it rip. It just takes seat time and practice. every car is different

Nice to see it on the track. I would say hold the burnout a little longer. And just drive the sob. Seat time will get you the numbers you want.

1. Tires have an optimum temperature to operate at. You're not getting them there with those weenie 1st gear burnouts. :p Make sure the e-brake holds good and do the burnout in 2nd (or 3rd, but make sure you have water down in 3rd to reduce the chance of slipping the clutch). Also, what was the tire pressure at?

2. You will definitely need to shift quicker. What trans is it? Is it not letting you in gear, or are you baby-ing it? Once you get the times between shifting to be quicker, start full-throttle shifting (might not be able to full-throttle shift 2nd depending on if the track can hold it or not).

The 1.713 60' launch looked good and you certainly have a great starting point from what you did there to work from. Get more heat in the tires and more practice, and you'll definitely be in the 1.6x range.

What is the weight of the car/driver combo? Estimated or actual? And what power was this actually run at?

Just set it up for onboard datalogging. And pull the logs after the runs.

Gotta get better on the shifting, that should be ur main concern from what i can see, ur killing the car between shifts.

like stated above 2nd or 3rd gear bunout. and stop spinning the tires in the water. it doesnt make you go faster.

other then that just beat the hell out of it.

any video (edit, damn work PC won't let me view the video)... a video would help to tell where you are lacking...

I have seen the power you are making, and i assume you were on at least 500whp. (judging from the 127mph on the 12 sec pass)

The car should be in the 1.6 sixty foots, and over 100mph in the 1/8th. I would'nt say to powershift, but briskly lift shift. Also learn to preload, and i used to do 1st gear burnouts and still got the tires warm enough to have 1.6? sixty foots, but was hitting the limiter. I do 3rd gear burnouts now and it does the same aside from hit the limitter too bad.

goodluck on the seat time.. In for better #s

ok, back...

after looking at the video.. Holy slow shifts (that will change with more seat time once you get cumfy with the car). I would set my shift light 200-300rpm b4 the RPM you would like to shift at. It will give you time to get your bearings and by the time you dooo shift, it will be ideal.

Are you getting on the throttle 100% b4 you let out the clutch on the burnout. Because it seems like you get on it par-throttle, then you let out it boggs a bit.

as hard as it seems to do, you really have to drive the **** out of it. it took me a long time to get it through my head that i should drive it hard .

2nd gear on burnouts is pretty much needed. i usually wait until i start to see smoke come over the hood and then i drop the ebrake and let the rest of the burnout drag me to the line.

id get more seat time and a datalog. i know you make great power and should be going solid into the 130mph range which is where that 25% throttle issue might come into play

overall i wouldnt get down about it one bit. there is a lot of time and trial and error to be had in this. good stuff for the first time out in years with a car making a lot more power than your past track experiences

There is really no need for a 3rd gear burnout, 2nd gear burnout, tire pressure to 7psi, 7500rpm lanuch, keep your foot in it and shift quick. We can tell you everything to do but it's all in seat time. I went 11.5 @ 117 with 350whp (wastegate) in a full weight em1. It's all in the driving

second gear burnouts and work on you shifting, the rest will come. Hold your first shift until your front end is at least to the 60' marker. Then you can change it up a little by litttle on subsequent passes until you find the optimal spot for that first shift. Watch you 60' and 330' times. I pay more attention to my 330' because I feel it is more informative than the 60' time.

Nice car though.

those burnouts are 2nd gear.

Q map. hopefully I got to logs while it was onboard datalogging. Ill look in a bit. That's what bothers me. I figured on that map I would have saw at least high 130's. But then again I shifted slow so and the short end is horrible. so that had a lot to do with it Im sure.

the most comfortable pass I had was the 11.9 pass.

the 12.4 the check engine light came on becuase of the TPS. that was a 2+ 60 ft.

Disagree. It might not make you faster, but since we beat the hell out of the cars, why not take every opportunity to be gentle in areas where we're not being timed - which is what getting water around the whole tire is meant to do. There is nothing wrong with what he was doing there.

Disagree, when you spin IN the water, it gets in your wheel well and then drips on the tire as you stage the car. Pull thru to the 2nd edge of the water and start your burnout there.

Was there anyone there helping you......is this a joke??? Iam by no means being a dick...its a lot of **** to remember/do when our starting out......try to stay focused on the task at hand.....step by step....turnout....stage.....leave and hit the shifts.....the learning curve is really steep...every pass will get faster and easier...with seat time.... bring the tires down to 6.5 psi....don't drag the clutch so much outta the hole.....3rd gear burnout...and hit the shifts a little faster....

The thing that I've found best.......park away from everybody and just do your own thing....its hard to stay on track with a million people around... love the car....

Don't spin in inch deep water (I've seen a ridiculously deep water box pit) and don't get so much wheel speed (to be fair, watching it again, ahobbs was a bit violent in the water). You only need one rotation. Given that the tire's circumference is going to easily be 60+ inches, you can't get water on that entire distance rolling through a water box. All water boxes I know of are under four feet (and that includes the 2nd water edge).

I just don't like the idea of starting a burnout in 2nd or 3rd gear on a dry tire. Unnecessary abuse IMO. Help the clutch by having the tire as slippery as possible.
