Everything you ever wanted to know about ethanol...
We just got a new tech article up that i'm sure everyone can learn something from.
Very few know or take the time to maintain an alcohol fuel system and as a result have problems.
Spend a few minutes and learn something here, if it doesn't benefit you directly at least you'll be smarter at the end of the day.

Where's the picture of Paul the retard sucking on a baby bottle while cruising with the top down in the big gay miata?

Re: Everything you ever wanted to know about ethanol...
good info, I was unaware of the varying volatility problems and I am unfortunately guilty of not "pickling" for the winter.
I test all my fill ups of E85 at the pump for ethanol content consistency. I'm sure people look at me crazy when I am doing science experiments at the gas pump but let them stare... I'd rather look like a nerdy dude than have speedholes in my pistons!

Re: Everything you ever wanted to know about ethanol...
The volatility of ethanol seems to be pretty good down to about 60%.. I've got several flexfuel cars running on ProEFI with ethanol content sensors that run on full kill down to about a 60% min content and I've never had an issue with knock at those mixtures. When I say full kill I'm talking 30-35PSI of boost 800-900HP timing all in, at fuel EQs of 1.22 (12.0AFR or .81~.80 lambda).. I have also gotten reports of contents as high as 93% in the summer, here in TX, and in NC.. One thing to remember is that one of the reasons the fuel has such a high knock resistance is the pure volume of fuel your putting in the cylinder. Lets say at 85% ethanol content, @ .80 lambda your volume of fuel would be equal to running 7.8 AFR if you were using the same VOLUME of fuel in gasoline. Even at 60% your still doing a really good job at cooling everything down..
I have gone through several injector cleanings on different cars where the fuel has sat.. On cars that drive every day on ethanol we have had 0 issues with injectors getting dirty.. If fuel STAYS in the rail and injectors it seems to prolong how much time it takes for the injectors to rust, but if the fuel drains out of the rail and back into the tank, it literally only takes a few days before rust starts setting in. For the race car applications that I've run on ethanol, if its gonna sit for more than 4-5 days, I pull the injectors and throw them in a bag of WD40 and store them like that. Seems to work great and haven't had any negative side effects that I've noticed. Anyways, good read, and good general practice for dealing with alcohol fuels. Some other things that need to be taken into consideration is oil contamination. The alcohol gets in the oil and will draw moisture into the oil as well, so be sure to run the car long enough to get the oil temps up, this will cause the alcohol to evaporate out of the oil.. I noticed this alot on dry sump cars, where the breather will really start to poor out steamy looking stuff and leave a puddle of moisture until the oil temps have been high enough for a while and it all burns out.

if you didn't actually clean them when you pulled them out, then yes, you should send them to Tony and have them checked and cleaned.

thanks for sharing! I've never used a baby bottle before (I took a graduated cylinder and rubber stopper from the chemistry stockroom at school)

Anymore info on how to check ethanol content beside the baby bottle thingy? Is there anywhere we can purchase a tester of some sort.

I use this to test ethanol content
http://www.jegs.com/i/Quick+Fuel/793/36-E85/10002/-1
and i looked at my injectors tonight and made sure they fire just like they did when i took them out and they did. i dried out everything, just didnt "rinse" them out.
