I remember when Venom was using and they had great sucess on it. Can't remember where people were getting, maybe Jarod Rohdes(sp) might know since he was also using.

I remember when jen lee had her car, it was sourced from a distiller and was mixed to the right formula with gas. Was really pure and it passed NDRA tech. Aparently the stuff the Jarrod was using was much more "dirty" for lack of a better term.

Sure someone has some good info around.

It's not as hard on eng. & parts as methanol. Wyoming Ethanol it,s in wy. but you can buy it all over the west, they sale E80 here at some gas stations that 80 % e

Thanks for the info guys. I called up Wyoming Ethanol last Friday and they said they were no longer distributing it, VP Racing Fuels would be. So I have a call into them and should know in the morning. But I was looking for other sources.

Pretty much heard the same thing. Its a lot easier on engine parts and such. But curious as to down sides if any.

Thanks again for any and all info.

Luis,
Hey this is Jeromie, Stephanie Eggum's crew chief.
We run Ethanol, and it has worked great. Much less maintinence compared to methanol. We race the car, at the end of the day I cap the fuel cell vent (SOMETHING EVERYBODY SHOULD BE DOING), and at the next event or whenever it needs to be started, uncap the vent, fill it with fuel and go race!
There is no problem with gelling or corrosion of aluminum compared to methanol
One thing you will see also compared to methanol is 50-100 degree higher EGT's.( Not really a problem if you have a good tuner).
Another advantage to running ethanol VS Methanol, PRICE ethanol is much cheaper! And you use 20% LESS ethanol to make the same power on Methanol.
So in a season you will buy LESS fuel and PAY LESS for it.
I have not seen any issues with ethanol affecting rubber hoses or seals.

If you are going from GAS to ethanol, Ethanol is cheaper than race gas, and it is in between GAS and Methanol as far as fuel system requirements.

We purchased our ethanol from a Grain elevator about 45 minutes away.
Just call the farm co-ops in your area.
E98 is what i recommend 98 percent ethanol. (that is the purest you can legally buy it.) The other 2% is usually benzene, to prevent people from drinking it.

AND ethanol does not burn your eyes when you are in the car!

Hope this helps, if you got anymore questions, call me on my cell.
Howard @ AR has my number.
Good luck luis!!
And if you are still going to run nitrous on ethanol, I can help you out with the jetting.

I think you can make more power with Methanol as you have to push a lot more of it thru the engine than Ethanol.

this is good news if it pans out. no shipping costs on drums luis, you can drive to the closest vp dist. in newark, de. im considering doing ethanol instead of methanol also when the new car is finished, so it would make for easy access at the newark, de location also for me. keep us posted on what you find out.

is e98 legal for sportsmen classes? forget e98, is e85 even legal for for those classes yet? I know e85 is not the highest octane fuel, but if it's legal, then e98 should be as well right?

Hi Jeromie, thanks for the info and thanks for the offer to help!!! I will still be running nitrous so I will be calling you up on some jetting ideas

Hey guys, sounds like it is better than gas without the downsides of methanol. So
if we can make more power on ethanol than gas, then I will give it a shot before switching to methanol.

I only wonder why more teams dont run ethanol? Maybe cause its a little harder to find?

oversteervw, I will post on here tomorrow what I find out from VP. Hows the new car coming???

20% less because is doesnt burn as much as methanol isn't this the reason methanol has a higher BTU?

I thought ethanol was more than methanol because it was like more environment friendly then wood aclhohol (meth)?

good stuff, thank you!

the new car is coming along slowly, customer work and personal situations have delayed me from making it happen for the upcoming season most likely and unfortunately. making good progress in your camp? was at ross machine a few months back talking with my good friend tom and saw some good CNC work.

''The methanol also was able to create more energy than the ethanol and therefore would be a better choice for consumers. The results of this experiment can show how much pollution is going to be created by the fuel when it is burned in the vehicle. This could reduce the amount of pollution that is created in the environment by the gases given off in the car exhaust. The soot collected on the filter shows what will be put in the environment with a given and comparable measure. The methanol created the least amount of soot and therefore would be a better substitute for diesel fuel, ''

Joe,
I did not understand what you typed.
Are you asking how much power we make?
Or how much ethanol to make a certain power?

We make about 880hp to the tires.

Ethanol actually has a higher BTU than Methanol, (pumpgas actually has more BTU than both)
But BTU does not mean **** if you cannot control Preignition/detonation, that is where the Octane number comes in to play. Methanol does have more than ethanol,THis is the reason meth has better power potential than Eth.

Is a big weldon and 1000cc primaries, 1600cc secondaries injectors a good start as far as the fuel system goes? Do you need to hard annodize aluminum components like methanol?

it needs 30% over gas, and it will be ok in aluminum
