Default Engine diapers

Is anyone using an engine diaper system? If so which one and how does it fit. Is it easy to put on and any pictures of one on a car. Or is everyone using a pan under the motor.

last I knew they were mandatory. That's why I thought some people would know some info on then because they should be using one. If not how are they passing tech at the events.(NHRA OR NDRA)

I was told by NHRA that the oil down time on Sunday (Etown) was 3 HOURS AND 15 MINUTES!!!

Obviously, no one is using their blankets. Possibly they just don't work. This affects all of us. PLEASE use your diapers.

Also, please pull over to the side of the track instead of dragging your oil all they way to the last turnout. Synthetic oil is the worst. They actually have to use wire brushes to get it off the track.

This sucks for RACERS and mostly the FANS.

If you knock a rod through the front of your block, you're going to oil the track regardless if you have a daiper or not, but in some instances, they can eliminate or reduce the amount of oil that gets on the racing surface.

Anyway...

There's no one way to install them, basically just get the straps to a certain length, and find attachment points around the motor.

Though I'm not completely agreeing that the diaper is the ultimate solution to the problem this past weekend, I think it would have helped a lot. The problem that the Hondas have with daipers is the possibility of it catching on fire or melting on the downpipe/header. I know many people who still fee uncomfortable using them because of this. The header/downpipe also causes poor diaper fitment-- whereas all the V8's you're talking clearly have never run into this problem.

On paper, it's a great idea, but I'd much rather have a race delay than someone's car catching on fire and being injured or worse because of a car fire dealing with a diaper.

I'm neutral on the issue, just trying to show that the bottom line is the diaper is not the ultimate solution to the problem.

It seems nobody is making any "custom fit" or "model specific" parts. Seems like 1 more among the myriad of parts that need to be fabricated for a serious race car.

The blankets won't catch on fire, they will melt, but won't catch fire. We melted Bryan's on the anti lag. The best way to do it is to make an aluminum belly pan that goes from front to back of the engine bay, and from side to side as wide as you can. Then you make a 1" lip all the way around. Kenny, Bryan, and Chuck all have a setup like this and it's way more efficient at catching oil and water than the blanket.

Plus they act as an aerodynamic adder.... is there a spec on the belly pan thickness when using aluminum and/or steel?

There's no spec, but i'd do at least .032 aluminum.

[ruthless pimping]

Find the June issue of OverRev at your favorite tuner shop or at a NDRA drag race, and go to page 56 for an article on oil containment that has some more info on diapers and catch pans.

Yeah... I supose they wouldn't actually catch on fire unless a flame was held to them, but at the same time, it's something we always kind of groaned about using. The front belly pan seems like a much better idea--I never thought about it becuase of what they always say at tech-- "where's your diaper?" Time to get the air nibbler out

Thanks for the info... we just got the new issue yesterday. Did you see that article about the K20A2 that was stock with Hondata and TWM ITB's? 243 @ the wheels!

velocitytrends: Here's a pic of a diaper-- it's the only one of the HCi that I could find, but there were a couple others if you do a google image search for "engine diaper"

There are many companies that will custom make this product.

We had a Taylor make us ours for the PRO cars and the street cars.

There is also
Deist
RCI
or Stroud.

these companies will make anything to your drawing. So you can make it so it will clear your headers and what not for the FWD cars.
